i've been to t.o. multiple times, and EVERYTIME we always leave saying how clean, safe, and most of all LAID BACK toronto is!!!! toronto is sooo chill when compared to nyc, philly, or washington.. haha everything that article said about toronto is COMPLETELY untrue if compared to an american city. i know the article compared t.o with the rest of canada, but i just think its hilarious how different the perspective really can be!

ok, now we've got the american cities in this comparison as well? how about we throw in some oil into the fire and mention european cities...? (oh no!)

Wierd since i find most people from the states to be much nicer than here.

Here is why i find most people think Toronto people are nice. Customer service. We kick ass at it. We will be your best friend for a tip. Americans sometimes don't have that part figured out when it comes to service but if you talk to them outside of the tourist - hospitality worker relationship they are usually much more open and full of personality than the average Torontonian.

Torontonians arent so bad once you really get to know them but sadly the general public here has a super thick facade that they dont know how to drop to easily.

I'd rather live in a "snobbish and uptight" Toronto rather than a boring redneck small town *pulls nose up high* :tongue3

Not quite, all you have to do is step onto the road and cars will stop. And God forbid you honk at someone crossing the road with no regard to the right of way of cars and they will actually get mad at you.

We need to stick Toronto pedestrians in Montreal (or just about anywhere else) for a day and see how they fare.

LOL I'd like to see TO pedestrians try to cross the streets of Paris....I just about had a heart attack and had to take a few stiff ones at the local Brasserie to calm down. Not to mention how openly you see le mitrailleuse donned by military.

But perhaps we are forgetting or maybe some of us are just too young to remember, that there was a time in TO when drivers would stop for pedestrians, and people would greet you with smiles, and bus drivers were kinder and happier etc. Of course I'm talking of the 70's and early 80's...I spose once you've experienced that type of courtesy....it's understandable why some are so resentful that it no longer exists.

The one thing I think the city of TO lacks is sophistication. Having travelled a lot. I find it's cold in comparison to other countries. South Americans have a warmth about them. States are very proud and welcoming (disagree if you like but I don't see many Canadians proudly boasting their devotion). Europeans are sophisticated and complex. Outside of TO...I've found ppl to be incredible nice and friendly...definately not stuck up.

I live outside of Toronto and i'm quite happy with it for now, but i'll probably move out of this city/province (soon enough).

problems i find with toronto:

1) no personal identity... trying to be the best of every other city, but failing miserabely...

2) think we are better than the rest of canada, instead of living along side them. How many of you actually know stuff about different provinces, other then the partying in montreal?

3) it's too multicultural.. as the article stated, you go to the states & every house has an american flag... you go to newfoundland & people are proud to be canadian.. here, we're allowed so much multiculturalism, almost EVERYONE puts their own country before canada's... I wonder how many people would still come here if we had to make the same kind of oath americans do (america first!)

I am actually getting a little tired of Toronto but definitely NOT for the reasons outlined in the thread :thepirate

I find the Toronto paradox is that everyone tries to be different but end up all being the same. Just take a look at gino clubs.

"I'm italian"

" oh yeah? Im portuguese!"

Meanwhile they are both canadian and both wearing the same parasuco shirt! LOL

LOL that's exactly how I feel. Though I support multiculturalism....I also feel that assimilation was it's original intention. We are all supposed to be equals and yet, in Toronto people don't feel that way. Everyone is too caught up being proud of thier heritage that they loose sight of how they are ostracizing themselves from being a proud Canadian.

That's why I'm proud to say I'm Canadian (first)....even tho ppl still press me to know where I'm from originally bc they don't like that as the first answer :p

I get greeted with "Caker" whenever im proud to be Canadian.

Then they get mad when i reply with Wop. Go figure..

LOL
