If you take Etobicoke and Scarborough out of the picture, Toronto really isn't that big.
At 2am you can drive from the start of Danforth, to the end of Bloor (when it becomes Dundas in Missussauga) in about 30 minutes, at 60km/h, hitting half the red's.
at 2pm in the afternoon, it's more like 2 hours.
...and I like how High Park is just Central Park with hills and stuff. |

And the fact that Toronto is "too big" is a lameass complaint anyways. I swear I think Canadians are just suffereing from an inferiority complex. Any big city has a fast-paced lifestyle...thats how the whole world is. Wake up Canada, it's not 1920 anymore |

what make distances long are the inadequate infrastructures and this annoying trend that everyone needs his green lawn in front of his house. Making North American cities more spread than they should be for their sizes.
The problem, is that, the more you build highways, the farther people will want to live, because of the advantage of that speedy roads, but that only last a couple of years before those new highways become saturated with traffic. |

A guy that I know, from the States (an "Ex-Patriot"), compared Toronto's traffic issue to being:
-not as bad as New York, but:
-WORSE then Los Angeles.
That's bad. LA's population is much greater then Toronto's last I checked.
Vancouver and Victoria is laughing at us. |

| when comparing a typical North American city (Toronto) and a European-like city (Montreal), the obvious winner is... |

Toronto is a generic large North American city.
It scares me how so many Torontonians actually think TO is the best city in the world.  Do some traveling! |

Basically, Toronto wants to be considered a world class city.
The fashion district, Paris or Milan wannabe.
Bay street, Wall street (New York)wannabe.
Have you ever heard of the TSX composite mentioned along side with the major financial indexes on CNBC or any other global business report ?
CBC TV, BBC or CNN wannabe.
Torontorians are more polite but are definitely more fake than the Americans. Here is a good example,
A friend of mine used to work for a call center conducting surveys, when he used to call the US, they would just hung up on him, but the Canadians used to tell him that they are kind of busy and when he replied "when it will be better to call back", their answer was "You no what, I'm not interested".
Even amongst the hundreds of DJ's currently based in Toronto or in Canada not even one is behind a multi-million selling dance project.
Come to think of it, what makes Mark Oliver so special, has he formed a dance/trance project that entered the British or the European charts ?
Try mentioning his name on any German, Dutch or Italian music board and see how many will recognize him. |

alex...
Nothing wrong with Toronto trying(or being) a world class city.
the us stations dont focus on anything but themselves..just watch their channels sometimes.
I agree with canadians(and Torontonians being more polite) then Americans. Ive traveled through the US quite a bit and theres no question we are nicer. more fake? Maybe Toronto is compared to the rest of Canada but to the big us cities... I dont think so.
as for the DJ's... its very hard for Canadians to do anything talent related(like certain sports, djing etc). Its just the way it goes here. just cause they arent big around the world doenst mean they arent good. We dont put enough money into those kinds of things like other places do. We just build more hockey arenas ;)
and as for that Montreal traffic comment..bull. MOntreal has HORRID traffic too.(yes the 401 in TO is the worst :eyes: ) Now a city where you can get around easily and quickly and has pretty light rush hours..OTTAWA!
I just think most people have opinions based on hersay. I dont like Toronto..they suck etc etc etc, meanwhile theyve never been here before. Oh but Ive heard from so and so who went there..yada yada.
I like Toronto but definately think it needs work in many areas, but it seems to me its just in that stage of being a big city.
Vancouver has worse crime then Toronto! and its traffic is fooked a lot of the time too! Its got that whole mountain ocean thing working for it though. Id probably want to live in Victoria instead.
Edmonton and Calgary are nice but they are in the middle of nowhere ;)
Montreal is decent but its not all super great like lots claim. What makes it better imo is that the diversity is smaller and closer together which helps them work together, where around TOronto stuff is spread out pretty far.
The East coast is nice aswell . more small time though.
Id love to move out West...Because I love the scenery . Im an out doorsy(sp) person and like it there. I just dont know if I ever could since I do like it here too and pretty much everyone who I know is around here.
for that insurance guy....your g/f is getting reemed or theres more to the story then you are telling us. insurance is high but it should NOT be even close to that high for that car for her. tell her to find a new company. |
