I don't thin k it's that bad.I'd say some people are not that friendly in getting-to-know-them kind of way, but most people are polite and helpful. |

3) it's too multicultural.. as the article stated, you go to the states & every house has an american flag... you go to newfoundland & people are proud to be canadian.. here, we're allowed so much multiculturalism, almost EVERYONE puts their own country before canada's... I wonder how many people would still come here if we had to make the same kind of oath americans do (america first!)
|
New Foundland also refused to raise the Canadian flag at one point in favour of their own .. LOL

I personally dont like Toronto very much.
My g/f lives in TO, and I live in Montreal. I'm used to the smaller city, more culture, more class and just overall more sophistication associated with Montreal. I dunno, Montreal just seems to have much more of a personality.
I go to Toronto maybe once or twice a month to vist my girlfriend, and I dunno, I thought I'd like the city, but I dont. First off, its HUGE....to get anywhere takes like an hour. And everything is so far apart...one club is on one side of town, another is like 20 km away...you wanna go eat somewhere you gotta drive half an hour.
Not to mention the crime....man, I hear about murder suicides/murders/rapes et... almost twice a week from my g/f...I'm actually getting kinda scared for her :nervous:

Now THATS over reaction...
Toronto is not very big at all. And the crime still pales in comparison to any other big city the same size.
Personality? yes you've got us there. Thats my complaint about Toronto. No personality and no passion. |

I agree that the city is huge because the core is on the edge and the rest is all over the place. Compared to cities that have a "central core" right in the middle where you have less commuting to do to get to the "action".
I don't agree with the crime rate tho... its pretty low compared to other cities. |

I live in Mississauga, and I honestly hate TO. The only reason i go...is work/clubs/food(rarely)
The main problem with TO, is that it has no personality, as many have said here: except maybe multiculturalism, which is great!
I think i know why TO has no personality: it wasnt planned properly...it seems like its just a bunch of areas stuck together. There is no flow to the city. It also seems like its trying to be a big city, rather than just doing it their own style...it seems that the planners are just taking parts of other cities, and trying to incorporate them.
THe other main problem(which i really see in Mississauga) ITS ALL ABOUT CONSUMPTION!!!!! 3 things to do in the suburbs....eat, shop, movies, nothing else...ok the park. Toronto is the same, just on a larger, more varied scale. thats they way i feel, its all about money here, i hate that feeling.
maybe im missing some of the closeness TO has to offer, becuase i dont live there...but if it exists, ive never seen in it.
Give me Montreal or Quebec any day, even though i HATE french. much nicer cities(only other major cities ive been to in Canada) |

what do you mean, Toronto is not big at all? the GTA is HUUUUUGE! Not to mention Mississauga, Bramton and the other outlying areas....
I guess I'm just spoiled coming from Montreal.I can drive ANYWHERE in the city in like 15 mins. I live in a suburb, and it takes me no more than 10 minutes to get downtown.
...Not to mention the fact that everything is EXPENSIVE there...
And the TTC charges up the ass for a montly pass! $98? Its $62 here! |
Ya well I think the ppl who say TO is small are saying this bc they are accustomed to the long travel and may not know any different.
that why I LOL....cuz I always thought the same about TTC but know some ppl think that TTC is justified in charging what they do. Atleast in Montreal or Quebec...you actually get service with a smile...I can't say the same for that here :( |

I read this article on Sunday morning...I knew it'd make it to TA sooner or later.
As for what I think of it...it's BS. Most of those people heard from someone that Torontonians are snobish, stuck up, its too big, it has too much crime...bla bla bla...its BS...or they went to Toronto once in their life, had a bad experience cause they're used to living in a small-time village and all of the sudden they're experts on our city and how bad it is. |
