Forgive my coming to the board -- I'm not a clubber, but I knew Cinar (DJ Fuzion) outside the scene and I wanted to write to this forum to tell the regulars that knew Cinar's music a bit about him as a person.
I met Cinar back in '98 when I first started at York University -- I met him through a mutual friend, who also introduced me to Swamper and some of the other York old-skoolers.
Before music became as life to Cinar, he was intensely interested in Political Science -- or to be specific, philosophic ideology and theoretics of government structure, organization and operation. His main intellectual preoccupation was the merit and modes of comparative government (with primary attention to case history drawn from around the world). He was also tangentially interested in Classical and Renaissance philosophy.
Toward this end, he was the first of our gang, as I recall, to achieve his degree (in Political Science).
Back then, a bunch of us had a weekly ritual of getting together for a movie and then hitting a local dive for cheap grub. During this time we often discussed successes and failures of governmental paradigms (e.g., the collapse of Communism in the former Soviet Union), but we also often spoke of the Arab-Israeli conflict and Turkish politics -- in particular political psychology of the rural Turk. Being Turkish himself, he was intensely interested in the biography of Ataturk and the incredible impact the founder of modern Turkey had on Turkish psychology and identity.
Cinar was a voracious reader, enjoying equally fiction bestsellers and works on corporate politics and the business place -- we also often discussed the latest thematic histories of the modern and ancient world. He was very well educated in the standard works on political theory.
After graduating, Cinar infrequently discussed a career in politics with one of the leading national Canadian parties. (At a later date, it was decided that the bureacracy was far too megalithically Byzantine to make the impact he wanted). :crazy: :eyespop:
Shortly afterward Cinar found music and devoted himself to it completely: he came to know the details of the people involved (promoters and DJs) and their material I daresay as he knew politics. I find it unsurprising there's an exclusively political forum here at TA. :)
I wanted to say that I respected Cinar Onat as an intellect and always enjoyed his comment and observations. I think it's important this community know the quality of his traits, on this particular intellectual facet of his personality.
Quite shrewd in assessment, cognitive and **unafraid** to draw the important conclusions no matter how badly they tasted -- all while having a personal magnetism and being very easy of laugh, he will be missed by those that knew him.
This is the substance of a bad dream, and it still doesn't seem real. I only wish I knew him better, more recently. The funeral was very dignified, but hard -- we must wish his family the best and the most.
En sha'Allah, he is in the better place.

Hey all,
I'm new to this forum, my name is Ben and i've been great friends with Cinar since we were like 4. Our grandmothers were best friends and our mothers went to the same highschool. And we even starting partying together... funny thing is it all started with Eurobeats lol. I'm actually still in shock that this tragedy occured and still find it hard to believe at times. It's really nice to see that so many people cared about Cinar and if I know Cinar he would probably want us all to remember him for all the laughs we had. |
