He has always been an absolute music DJ, no pretexts or symbolisms in his music. PvD plays for the mere pleasure of the dancefloor without the pretentiousness of conveying a fictitious journey through the construction of the set. No bullting, just straight-up hi energy dancefloor music. Dance music is just that, dance music. Nothing else is needed. This is the crisp and clean German approach to edm.

In the other hand, Tiësto has always been a program music DJ. Ever since the early Forbidden Paradise and Magik days you could tell what Tijs was/is all about. He is a way more pretentious DJ in the sense that he tries to evoke a symbolic esoteric journey through track placement and pacing. Tiësto is all about energy and mood contrasts because he's always trying to tell a story. FP, Magik, ISOS, Revolution, Nyana....they all use the art of trance as a means for storytelling. This is more important than the actual 'dance' element of dance music for the Dutch trance philosophy that Tiësto leads. The pretentious kippenvel "magik journey" is the end for those means.

It's true that Disneyland events and mega-concerts with flashy magic shows are cheesy as , but hey, this is just a magnification of what Tiësto has always been about. It's actually part of Dutch nature....Gouda cheese, not Kraft....and I absolutely love it. :p

Tijs and PvD have always been my favorite DJs because they are both so unique and different that they complement each other in very good ways. It's kind of sad that Paul would diss Tijs like some gangstah rapper without really understanding where he's actually coming from though.

well spoken yaley:D

Cheers my friend.

I'm going to see Nu NRG live this Friday and I have no idea what to expect from them these days. I'm really excited! :D

Anyway Paul should keep quiet till this streak of vocals is done with... :whip: :D

So true..."Crush" wasn't THAT good, and neither is that new track with Vega 4.

And btw, the Suburban Train with the Choir in the background was unbelievable. It took that track to a whole new level.

Agreed. That was perhaps the only good part of TiC2. Absolutely amazing.

And Pio, very, very well-said!

they have been good... real nice beats, with some nice melodies over the top :)
NuDarkBeat
my 2 cents is....

Paul is also beginning to sell out, but compared to Tiesto hes is mutha fukin underground. I also do agree that the vocals dont really always work the way they are meant to, I mean sometimes it just sounds like total cheese.

PVD rips off songs as well.. so what does that have to do with the fact that suburban train is a great song, and even better with the choir? :conf: Reading this thread and comments I can only conclude you're a real Fanboy.. PVD is God, and everything Tiesto does sucks  Grow up....

just listen to him talk about the quality of music around and how he doesn't like "cheesey danceable pop" when he's made a couple of iffy tracks of his own to be nice about it. then right after that, he starts blabbing about his plans to work with rock group vocalists.

then of course he starts to crap on tiestor a little, which yeah i can't disagree with...but still pretty distasteful...

then he starts in about how he invented the re edit and for live sets...i know he's been doing that sorta thing for a while now, but come on paul...your edits aren't exactly the stellar productions you seem to demand quality wise from the industry...

i've always at least had a level of respect for paul...even if i don't particularly like his newer work, but i dunno...it might have just gone out the window...

don't sit around and point out what flaws others have and then be completely oblivious to your own...

I agree 100%.

BUT

I think more DJ's should be critial of each other instead of this ' alliance' which is 'good for business'. I think we need more people talking trash. Its good entertainment.

I would REALLY respect Paul Van Dyk if he:

1) Cut off Second Sun from VANDIT

2) Cut off NU NRG from VANDIT

3) Stopped playing mickey mouse trance in his sets.

If he did that than his 'critique' of tiestor and armins would carry more weight. Without these changes, its just people exchanging empty rhetoric.

Paul doesn't rip Airbase off though! LOL!!!!

I say Paul does stupid all the time, but all you tiesto fans other then Pio are completely blind, deaf & ignorant.

I wouldn't really call Tiesto a good representative of Dutch nature, but for the rest you're probably right (can't judge that as I don't really listen to either of them)
