hunger, famine, natural disaster.
one aussie chick found guilty in bali. let's put it in perspective. |
are you saying that all your compassion has been used up! C'mon erratik thats a really poor statement |

pkcRAISTLIN - sure it's harsh. you are however looking it from an australian perspective. if you were raised in bali in that environment, and witnessed somebody being charged based on THEIR laws, your view would be a little different.

nah mate- im a rational universalist (if there is such a thing :p ). yes, my education has been in oz but that doesnt mean i tow the country line. same as i can disagree with oz laws, i disagree with theirs.
laws should serve some useful purpose. i dont see that theirs do. |

i think you need to write a book to define that one :D
so do the laws on mars make sense? |

oh yeah and after my last post i think there's something that needs to be said in general on this subject - she was ing lucky to only get 20yrs
regardless of whether she's guilty or not - you can feel sorry for her - yes, however think about the other thousands of people who have been jailed for decent periods of time. Renee Rivkin (sp) was put away for insider investing. drugs are a topic which most social classes will show no leniency to.
if she was framed/accidentally brought into some sort of drug ring - she should consider herself lucky that she hasnt been given a life sentence or even death, given the fact that up until her case my thoughts about someone being caught with drugs in bali - i thought she'd be killed no questions asked. she was lucky to get off with what she did
then on the other hand - if she was guilty then she was again fkn lucky. she should've known the risks of bringing drugs into bali - same goes for the bali 9. if they're guilty then i show no compassion if they're going to risk their life for a little bit of cash, thats just plain stupid |

it means i believe that there are universal laws that (or should) govern all nations and all peoples of the world. im not saying i know what they all are however. ;)
yes, the laws on mars are dictated by the laws of physics, which make a lot more sense than south east asian drug laws :p |

which is fvcking stupid given that so many of the social costs of drug use stems from their criminalisation  |

Well, can't say I'm surprised by that outcome.
I coudln't imagine the indonesian government missing the oppertunity to make an example of a 'drug trafficer' with such media exposure.
Looking at it from that point of view, if she was to be let off, it would be open season on the importation of drugs, so I can see why she was convicted.
Maybe I'm just overly synical, but I think this stopped being about one person and one crime quite some time ago.
*edit, I can't spell.. cynical |
