How can anyone still be dumb enough to vote liberal? |
Some of us still vote liberal because of the conservative's stance on social issues and the NDP's ability to royally up a budget.
Until the conservatives consider moving back to center on social issues (abortion, welfare, gay marriage) and until a couple of generations have passed since the racist Reform party there is absolutely no way I would ever vote for the conservative party.
The liberals have taken total advantage of people who vote like me...Even though we don't like voting for them (because of their financial incompetance) we feel it's better than having a socially right-wing government. |

I was thinking, Canadian Politics should be a REQUIRED course to get a high school diploma. Too many Canadians are too ignorant about Canadian politics, or they think that we're the same as America.
edit: OMG CP24 was talking to people on the street in TOronto, and people still wanna vote Liberal because they dont like the other options. UGH!! This boggles my mind. Just how dense are these people?! |
it was, and i had to take it. the problem was, i never really cared at that age, and forgot it. its the truth.

-58. Abortion Legislation
A Conservative Government will not support any legislation to regulate abortion.
-Welfare is a provincial matter.
-On marriage, the CPC is the only party in the middle. It supports civil unions for gays AND the traditional definition of marriage. The NDP, Bloc, and many Lieberals are on the extreme left, and the CHP is on the extreme right.

Racist Reform? The party that advocated radical egalitarianism? The party that elected more MP's of Indian heritage than any before? Wow, you're pretty ignorant.
Did you know that Ernst Zundel ran for leader of the LIEBERAL Party?
Or that Japanese were interred by a LIEBERAL government?
Or that the neo-colonial Indian Act was passed by a LIEBERAL government?

Yeah you said it. |

...too bad the courts have said time and time again that "equal but separate" doesn't cut it under the equality provisions of the Charter.
There was once a time when blacks in the southern US were given equal access to public education, but in schools separate from whites. Clearly in this day and age that policy wouldn't fly. |

I hope you guys don't take this poll seriously!!
People will forget about the allegations found in the Gommery commission, especially after a tax break in the next budget "update"...
the PC aka hillbillies won't be in power until they shut their radical wing down aka the shadowolves of this nation. |

Actually the Supreme Court did not rule that traditional marriage is unconstitutional.

The Court also held that the federal government has exclusive authority to define marriage. The Ontario Court of Appeals' decision (as well as the other provincial and territorial courts) is ultra vires.

A gay union is fundamentally different from traditional marriage, whereas you can't really argue that there's a fundamental difference between blacks and whites as to education. |

In otherwords, bribe us with our own money so that we'll turn a blind eye over the fact you stole our money from the other pocket? |

the conservatives are quite moderate on social issues. They arent going to prevent same sex unions. They would give full rights to gay people but they just wouldnt call it marriage. They have stated they will not ban abortion and welfare is not even a federal issue. So what are good reasons to vote Liberal now? |

Canadians like to be bribed with their own money. An extra $50 a year makes them feel good about the $2000 the government took from them to give to their buddies in exchange for kickbacks. |

Maybe in Quebec, but that's not the Anglo-Canadian/American way. |

We've gone over this before. Provincial courts have just as much jurisdiction to rule on federal matters as does the Supreme Court. In fact, they HAVE to. Anything that deals with a federal matter does not get referred to the Supreme Court right off the bat. All proceedings start in the provincial courts before being escalated. The Supreme Court only deals with appeals, and only then those that deal with a significant question of law.
And did you actually read that decision? The court did not say that traditional marriage is not unconstitutional. That was specifically dealt with in question #4 of the reference case, which the Supreme Court REFUSED to answer (because of all the problems ruling one way or another would create).

Back in the 40s and 50s, people would say that there WAS a fundamental difference between blacks and whites as to education, which is why they had separate schools in the first place. Obviously society has evolved enough to realize that was silly.
A gay union may be fundamentally different from YOUR definition of traditional marriage, but it's not in the eyes of many others. And in this case, it ONLY involves civil marriage, and from a strictly civil law point of view, all citizens should be subject to the same rights and responsibilities. |
