Below u will see...Atta was just a hijacker and Al Qaeda was behind it all....

The independent commission probing the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks has found evidence suggesting the attacks were intended to be carried out in May or June of that year, but were postponed by al Qaeda leaders because lead hijacker Mohamed Atta was not ready, according to sources privy to the panel's findings.

New evidence gathered by the commission, including information obtained from U.S.-held detainees, indicates that Khalid Sheik Mohammed, mastermind of the attacks, persuaded al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden to postpone the attacks by several months because of the organizational problems, according to the sources, who declined to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the commission's investigation.

This has been an important week on two fronts on our war against terror. First, thanks to the hard work of American and Pakistani officials, we captured the mastermind of the September the 11th attacks against our nation. Khalid Sheik Mohammed conceived and planned the hijackings and directed the actions of the hijackers. We believe his capture will further disrupt the terror network and their planning for additional attacks.

In December 2001 U.S. forces in Afghanistan captured a videotape during a raid on a house in Jalalabad, in which a man who looks like bin Laden is seen and heard discussing the September 11 attacks with a group of followers. According to the official U.S. translation of this tape—which has been disputed—bin Laden says: 2001 is a common year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar. ... Jalalabad (Persian: Jalālābād) is the capital of Nangarhar province in Afghanistan, 150 km east of Kabul near the Khyber Pass. ... Translation is an activity comprising the interpretation of the meaning of a text in one language—the called the source text—and the production of a new, equivalent text in another language—called the target text, or the translation. ...

We calculated in advance the number of casualties from the enemy, who would be killed based on the position of the tower. We calculated that the floors that would be hit would be three or four floors. I was the most optimistic of them all. (...Inaudible...) Due to my experience in this field, I was thinking that the fire from the gas in the plane would melt the iron structure of the building and collapse the area where the plane hit and all the floors above it only. This is all that we had hoped for. (full text of the tape transcript).

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? SHEIK MOHAMMAD IS THE NUMBER 3 GUY IN ALQAIDA....SERIOUSLY I WONT TLAK WITH YOU ANYMORE....NOW YOU ARE SAYING SHEIK MOHAMMAD WASNT ONE OF THE LEADERS OF AL QAIDA:rolleyes:  :whip: :whip:

You do now Mohammed Atta (terrorist on plane) and Sheik Mohammed (3rd guy in Al Qaida and mastermind of 9.11) are TWO different people right?

"Al-Qaida" didn't even exist before 9/11!!! That name was invented by the Americans! FFS can you not read man?!

quote:
During the investigation of the 1998 bombings, there is a walk-in source, Jamal al-Fadl, who is a Sudanese militant who was with bin Laden in the early 90s, who has been passed around a whole series of Middle East secret services, none of whom want much to do with him, and who ends up in America and is taken on by—uh—the American government, effectively, as a key prosecution witness and is given a huge amount of American taxpayers’ money at the same time. And his account is used as raw material to build up a picture of Al Qaeda. The picture that the FBI want to build up is one that will fit the existing laws that they will have to use to prosecute those responsible for the bombing. Now, those laws were drawn up to counteract organised crime: the Mafia, drugs crime, crimes where people being a member of an organisation is extremely important. You have to have an organisation to get a prosecution. And you have al-Fadl and a number of other witness, a number of other sources, who are happy to feed into this. You’ve got material that, looked at in a certain way, can be seen to show this organisation’s existence. You put the two together and you get what is the first bin Laden myth—the first Al Qaeda myth. And because it’s one of the first, it’s extremely influential.

VO: The picture al-Fadl drew for the Americans of bin Laden was of an all-powerful figure at the head of a large terrorist network that had an organised network of control. He also said that bin Laden had given this network a name: “Al Qaeda.” It was a dramatic and powerful picture of bin Laden, but it bore little relationship to the truth.

[ EXCERPT, CNN EXCLUSIVE VIDEO : BIN LADEN AND SOLDIERS ]

VO: The reality was that bin Laden and Ayman Zawahiri had become the focus of a loose association of disillusioned Islamist militants who were attracted by the new strategy. But there was no organisation. These were militants who mostly planned their own operations and looked to bin Laden for funding and assistance. He was not their commander. There is also no evidence that bin Laden used the term “Al Qaeda” to refer to the name of a group until after September the 11th, when he realized that this was the term the Americans have given it.

I suggest you go and read a book and then we'll have a proper discussion shall we?

You're clearly incapable of listening to anything I have said so just go read the book...

Good luck on explaining this to him George you'll need it. :p

(the subtlety of it will just be washed away....)

Yes I do beg your pardon...

Anyway, the people who flew the plance in to the WTC planned the attack, they went to Afghanistan to meet a rich man whom they presented their plan to. He liked the idea and gave them money. They went off and carried out the plan.

This is what you are refering to?

Should be Sheik Mohammaed instead of the hijackers as you point out

So Sheik Mohammed (not a member of al-Qaida, and certainly not number 3!! what a silly suggestion!!) went to bin Laden, told him his plan, bin Laden though "good thinking batman" and gave him money and helped him find some people to fly the planes

Is that easier for you to understand?

Thats like saying...there was no mafia before 1928 because no one called it the mafia...bull..it was STILL the mafia!!!!!!!

I think u need to read a book....cus so far u have implied Bin Laden and Sheik Mohammad didnt organize, plan and hand pick the terrorists for the attacks....but instead u claim these rogue terrorist thought of 9.11 all by themselves and then came to bin laden for money and he said "gee what a fantastic idea" ...please feed that ignorant history lesson to someone else.

Well as I asked George a question on some history of AQ, I must do the same with you - what evidence is there to support the assertion that bin Laden organized, planned, and most importantly - hand picked the terrorists for the attacks? Because so far, all I've seen presented was Sheik Mohammed being behind the real organization of these attacks, not bin Laden himself.

I have never said Skeik Mohammed did not plan the attacks (he was the "rogue terrorist group" I refer to - I assumed (perhaps incorrectly as I will admit) that some of the hijackers were affiliated with Sheik Mohammed)
