I think everyone should send a letter to Utah County,Utah Government to let them know where you will not be spending any tourism money, to let them know how much bab international attention they have.

To have more than 250 at an event without that permit is a violation of the law, Gilbert said.

Party promotor Brandon Fullmer said he purchased a mass gathering permit through the Utah County Health Department about three weeks ago. The purchase of that permit, which ensures water, sanitation and medical services, was confirmed by County Health employee Jay Stone. Fullmer did not know that a similar permit, which requires a security plan and event details, needed to be acquired.

The sheriff had little sympathy for the promoters or those at the rave. "They did nothing more than ensure this was a venue for illegal drug use and consumption," Tracy said. Officers confiscated ecstasy, marijuana, alcohol, cocaine and mushrooms, he said.

Among those arrested for drug possession were several security guards hired by Fullmer to patrol the event. Guards at security check points confiscated alcohol and drugs as ravers filed into the party, Fullmer said.

"[Security guards] have no legal statutory authority to take and hold controlled substances. It's against the law for them to have them," Tracy said.

............looks like the promoter didn't have all the permits?

So who does? Would they rather the drugs be allowed in?

Like Andrea said- a trap.

The cops need a lesson in asking people to leave & talking politely first, without using force and aggression.

the fact that you even need a permit unless u are selling food is really stupid.

why should the government decide whether or not you should be able to gather?

These kind of events happen on a regular basis, all over the world, especially in Europe, and South America. A reasonable response from the authorities would have been to frisk people & search cars on the way in, and then let everyone who is not causing a problem have a good time.

What happened there should never happen in a democratic country. The National Guard did not raid Woodstock because people did acid there.

There should be a total tourism boycott of that county by anyone who believes in civil liberties. The best way to hurt them is in the pocket. That area of the U.S. actually is heavily dependant on tourism.

its amazing how former soviet countries and former dicatorships have more freedoms than we could ever dream of...

This is what blows my mind everytime im in those countries having the time of my life.

Stuff like this makes me wonder why were fighting for "Freedom in the Middle East". We don't even have it here.

I definately agree, someone was recently telling me about all the raves he used to go to when he lived in Hungary.

Also I have several friends from Chile ( formerly run by dictator Pinochet ), who have shown me pictures of multiple huge outdoor trance festivals, and unlike here, these events are shown on mainstream media, which shows the people just having a good time, and dancing all crazy ( very little negative stereotype press ). Often there, the news even shows old people going to these events and having fun. Actually pictures of these events are frequently posted on www.trance.cl. Another friend is going to a massive outdoor festival DJ'd by Tiesto in Brazil, in October.
People in other parts of the world really do have more freedoms than Americans. As for Canada, I'm really glad the city of Toronto doesn't harass Guvernment. If the Guv was in the U.S. it probably would have been shut down ( even though there is lots of drugs in every hip hop & heavy metal club, and Crystal Meth all over every Red Neck Town in the South ).

Luckily Marylamnd & D.C. where I live is not like most of the U.S. and what happened in Utah would probably not be tolorated here by the general public. At most EDM events I've been to here recently, the police work with the security, and are usually undercover inside the event.

I'm sorry but comparing our freedoms to that of Middle Eastern countries is retarded. At least women can vote and have meaningful jobs in our country, unlike some countries.

Comparing the U.S. vs Canada, or some European countries vs Canada is understandable.

This was basically a trap. They knew it was going to happen, allowed it to happen, figured they would let the promoters waste their money, and then bust in.

If people think we are not much better off than in Utah, think again. Although we may not have huge out door festivals all the time, we do get to hear some of the best music in the world. We have kick ass locals, and loads of international talent here every day, every week, month after month. For that, we should be happy.

If you have not figured it out already, societies which are organized and overseen by humans will never be perfect, groups will always be oppressed and abused. It's how we deal with these occurrences that is important.

This was a drug bust, plain and simple. They are merely using the rave scene as a scapegoat, to further their 'war on drugs'. The actual events of this night were dismal to say the least, but hopefully the people involved will be able to go through the proper channels and be vindicated. If they are, then they will really show what they are made of.
