Also I have several friends from Chile ( formerly run by dictator Pinochet ), who have shown me pictures of multiple huge outdoor trance festivals, and unlike here, these events are shown on mainstream media, which shows the people just having a good time, and dancing all crazy ( very little negative stereotype press ). Often there, the news even shows old people going to these events and having fun. Actually pictures of these events are frequently posted on www.trance.cl. Another friend is going to a massive outdoor festival DJ'd by Tiesto in Brazil, in October.
People in other parts of the world really do have more freedoms than Americans. As for Canada, I'm really glad the city of Toronto doesn't harass Guvernment. If the Guv was in the U.S. it probably would have been shut down ( even though there is lots of drugs in every hip hop & heavy metal club, and Crystal Meth all over every Red Neck Town in the South ).

Luckily Marylamnd & D.C. where I live is not like most of the U.S. and what happened in Utah would probably not be tolorated here by the general public. At most EDM events I've been to here recently, the police work with the security, and are usually undercover inside the event.

check out the thread of bulgaria pics and videos... the party i went to there on the beach could never happen here.

no one compared us to the mid east. We were comparing to europe and south america.

As for the police. Id like to see canadians try and stand up for themselves and see what happens. Actually they did a couple of times at queens park in the last few years and the police beat the snot out of them.

we arent much better off. yes we have great talent here but its constantly stifled and i know quite a few talented people who have moved away because of that.

This whole situation is just sickening.

It doenst matter if they had a ing permit for over 250 people. The point is the cops had an agenda & were gonna kick ass no matter what. Any decent cop would have approached who was in charge & told them the event had to end & said it politely & proffesionally like a ing human being. Not raided the joint with machine guns, choppers & helmets, also while covering thier faces to hide the cops idenity. This is a big part of this governments agenda. Get people used to raids with machine guns to put us into a police state.

The cops had to be stupid not to know the party goers thought it was a total legal event, but they insisted on blaming them.

"Officers found cocaine, Ecstasy, marijuana, mushrooms, alcohol and large amounts of drug paraphernalia.

Gilbert says a 17-year-old West Jordan girl was found overdosed on Ecstasy, and was treated and released to her parents."

What is "overdosed on Ecstasy"? Has anyone ever actually seen someone overdosed on Ecstasy? I've seen people get dehydrated but not OD. Had they said ODed on blow or booze I could believe it but not on E (unless it was dirty as hell and then it serves her right for not testing her pills).

A friend of mine OD'd on E and unfortunately passed away when I was 14. That can happen.

the fact that you even need a permit unless u are selling food is really stupid.

why should the government decide whether or not you should be able to gather?

b/c it is the gov't job to look after its citizens. when u have a large group of ppl gathered together it becomes more difficult for them to do that. by getting a permit areas of teh gov't are insured that they need not worry about certain things like..if there are decent washrooms present, or if the sound is going to affect local residents. also this gives them advance warnings of a party that just incase something goes wrong (riot, fire etc) they know what they're dealing with. sure u think it'd be nice to live without the gov't breathin down yer neck. lets take a guess on how long a country living in that chaos would survive

That is quite unfortunate, and I am sorry that happened. But, while I don't dispute the fact that your friend may have passed away as a result of taking something that he/she thought was E, there is no way that if it actually was E that he/she overdosed. You would have to take a ridiculous amount of E to achieve this.

those pics of poland and bulgaria....

I know for a fact that the party in bulgaria didnt have a permit and i suspect the one in poland didnt either. Hell they dont even issue liquor licences. When i told the promoters what they need to do in order to throw a party like that in Canada and that it probably wouldnt even be allowed they were in shock. And trust me, it was more fun and safer than anything else ive ever been to. Everyone survived and there wasn't even a single fight. We think we need the government to protect us from "evil things" that dont exist because that's how they make money.

No doubt that we are way too over-regulated and its so engrained into most people's minds that they either just accept it or don't care. But the outcome is a bland, cultureless, fun-free society.

I have a friend who has been trying to organize a one day street festival. 8 months later and still tonnes of red tape from the city and it may not happen. In Bulgaria they told me that the biggest problem they had was setting a suitable date to get the DJs they wanted. The rest took 2 weeks to organize.

How can you bring a positive outcome out of such a tragedy? :conf:

And Nat I guess they expect events like these to use uummm cops as security since they would be allowed to hold such illegal substances...I don't know how the laws in Utah are but that'd be my assumption...:conf:
