This Looks Very Serious
South-Coastal Florida TAs, think about evacuating...
It is not going to be as strong at landfall as it is now, because it is going to move into some cooler waters off the coast of Cuba, but still a dangerous major hurricane...
I believe these links and images update on their own
Don't quote me on it though...
I will update this thread throughout the day
----
10/23, 8:50PM Update:
Wilma is in the Gulf now, and appears to be heading towards Cape Coral/Punta Gorda/North Point area and will probably make landfall by tomorrow morning
She has strenghtened to 110MPH, at the very edge of becoming a category 3
initial forecast was to weaken due to shear in the gulf, but that has not happened as of yet.
she is also getting better organized, and gaining speed.. my guess is it will be around 120MPH when it makes landfall
a category 3
On a side note,
Alpha and Wilma could merge to form a superstorm:

10/22, 1:16PM Update:
Wilma is a category 3 now, winds at 115mph, pressure 946mb. Of course, she weakened once she hit land, and will continue to weaken until she enters the gulf of mexico. Some strengthening is porrible, but once it gets to florida it will probably not be stronger than a category 2.
You can see it on the radar too, she is falling apart.
10/21, 10:45AM Update:
UPDATE:
Landfall at Cozumel island, just off coast of Cancun
wilma will stall for 24+ hours near Cozumel/Cancun, so they will continually see 150+mph winds during that time. I hope everyone got out from that location. I'd be surprised if I saw any structures left standing after wilma passes...
Us Landfall is now pushed back even further until monday night looks like cause of the stall
10/20, 3:33PM Update:
As predicted earlier, she's back to almost a category 5 now
Winds: 150MPH (up from 145)
pressure has gone up a bit to 918 from 915...
10/20, 8:20AM Update:
Wilma is now a category 4, but don't let that fool you
She is expected to go cat 5 again.
Also the initial landfall has been delayed, due to some slowing down. Expect the US landfall sometime monday in the AM... Still unsure of the location, but some models are agreeing on Naples, FL.
10/19, 3:00PM Update:
this storm did not weaken much during the cycle as hurricanes usually do... holy crap on a stick batman!
this is a very intense monster of a storm
it just might break its own record for the most intense pressure ever in the atlantic, which was set this morning at 882MB
10/19, 2:06PM Update:
As expected, wilma weakened slightly
it is down to 165MPH and the pressure is 892millibars
this is probably due to the eye wall replacement cycle
look for wilma to strengthen again later tonight, possibly after midnight
10/19, 1:30PM Update:
The storm seems to be undergoing an eye-wall replacement cycle (EWRC), which will make it weaken slightly. When the new eye wall forms later tonight, it may strengthen even more, and possibly break its own pressure record. Look for this cycle to repeat itself 2 or 3 more times before making landfall in the US.
New recon data should be in shortly... stay tuned
10/19, 11:00AM Update:
New data is in
Seems that this hurricane is growing
The eye has grown to 5.75 miles in diameter (up from 2.3)
Hurricane force winds extend out 50 miles (up from 17.2)
The bigger the eye, the bigger the storm surge...
10/19, 10:20AM Update:
MANDATORY EVACUATION OF THE LOWER KEYS HAS JUST BEEN ANNOUNCED
If you live anywhere below the 7 mile bridge GET OUT
10/19, 9:34AM Update:
Pressure down to 881MB
some further strengthening forecasted

if i remember correctly, hurricanes are named according to a rotating set of 6 lists (alternating male and female)
so names in 2005 would be used again in 2011... |

i find this post to be offensive to the female TA population and would like a formal apology in its own thread. |

so by saying that other male TA's DO follow me around, that would constitute as some following around by you in itself right? otherwise, how would you have known that? :p |
