I share a lot of the sentiments that have been written already so I'll try not to echo them all over again here... suffice to say, for some reason or another, System Soundbar became my gateway to meeting so many of you awesome TOTA's over the last 4 years and it was definitely a chapter of my life that I won't forget anytime soon. And definitely can't forget going to WMC on the System Soundbar bus!!!!!!!!
I am SO framing my VIP card ;) And just for the record, I definitely preferred System pre-renovations. Give me grungy basement and weird psychedelic hanging from the ceiling any day of the week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome memories... Erika xo |

With the exception of "big room trance", IMHO *anyone* is better at System than Guv.
the big sound systems of Guv, Dock, Boa, etc...the vibe on a good night at System was unmatched by most other clubs I've attended over the years.
People went to party...not to dress up, not to impresses their dates, not to throw money around (early night coked out ginos, excepted), not to pick fights, not because it was the "cool place to be seen", etc.
some great memories, off the top of my head:
- my first ever after hours night in Toronto, at least 8 years ago(?)
- Breathe fridays
- some of Toronto's finest residents such as Deko-ze, Mark Scaife, Evil P, and more recently Sydney Blu, etc.
- John '00' Flemming in a little venue.
- Max Graham who was fun every single time, even if he did spill beer on the equipment one day, lol. The first time I met anyone on TA (Nat) was on a Max Graham night.
- having a big group of friends come out for Anne Savage who dropped a nice set of what I consider to be true "System music" followed by a dark and delicious set by Evil P to close out the night.
- Scumfrog's 1st ever appearance in Toronto...the debut of the frog hat!!!
- Scumfrog's 2nd appearance there, with him dropping Days go By (after being begged, lol), perhaps one of the more memorable moments I've enjoyed on that dancefloor.
- dirty breakz in the back room
- great trance and prog in the old VIP room
- running into a co-worker, both of us *mashed* and having no idea the other partied, lol.
I'm forgetting so many nights of great DJs and music, I'm sure...
System was *ideal* for a certain type of music, IMHO...Rauhofer's "Safe from Harm", Scumfrog's remix of Kylie's "Love at First Sight", Junkie XL's "Beauty Never Fades". This is System music for me, even on their old *crap* sound system and it just doesn't sound the same anywhere else :(
I haven't been there much since the reno...the place is still fun, but has lost some of it's "charm" (for lack of a better word). There will always be big clubs...some new "it" place to be...but nothing, I mean nothing, beats a great DJ spinning some fine tunes in a little intimate venue like System. I will miss that vibe, though it's kind of already been gone for a while. |

| system soundbar = good times, some of my best times in T.O where there... the clubs down here would only hope to have a good vibe like system  |

System was the first after-hours club I ever went to...I didn't even know about after-hours clubs at that point, and my friend suggested we go out at like 3m and I was like "HUH??? Everything's closed!"
But then he brought me there and ever since...
Ah well...Good times were had, better times are just ahead. Enjoy it while you have it. |

I have many good memories to take away from System: Picotto's first appearance in Toronto, Joy Kitikonti, several of Deko-ze's 6 hour marathon sets, Steve Lawler, Max Graham's Shine events, and of course all of the TA invasions. System seemed to be the only place left in the city that still had that old school vibe, and it seemed to be the only club that welcomed and embraced the up & coming talent in the city, and for that it will greatly be missed. Toronto will have a void to fill once System closes its doors.
Good bye old friend :( |
