Anybody can go look up definitions in encyclopedia - it would be nice if more people thought about applying those definitions it in practical realm.
My assertion is: (in practical terms) becoming obese via consuming too much protein is not only unlikely and uncommon but (IMO) next to impossible. |
It's not as common as becoming obese via consuming too much fat and sugar, but it's certainly not impossible. And that's missing the point anyway - simply because something won't lead to obesity does not make it healthy. As mentioned earlier, a massive excess of protein in one's diet is murder on the kidneys.
I could eat a box of salt for every meal and not gain any weight, but I don't think I'd last very long. |

How about this: Obesity is NOT likely as a result of protein consumption.
Or this: Protein consumption is UNLIKELY to cause obesity.

Hypertension does more damage to your kidneys than even 3 g / kg of protein intake per day (and most people would be tasked to consume 3 g / kg of protein per day).
Proper hydration and moderate to high levels of protein intake do not impact kidney function in a significant way. With respect to kidney health there are many far more significant factors to be concerned with than protein intake.
Lets not be so academic "in vitro" with our discussion here. A body and is far different than a test-tube. A human being is far different than a calculation. |

theres only 3 methods of mitvating urself to go to the gymn
method 1: ur a goal oriented person and u set a physical goal
method 2: u strip naked in front of a mirror and realize how ugly ur body is
method 3: u strip down naked in front of the mirror realize ur a sexy beast and u want to improve ur sexiness.
or method 4: u have a secret fetish for amazon women |

Even with increased protein consumption beyond 2 g/kg – lets apply practical information, not textbook definitions – people do NOT get fat from protein. |
From my understanding, the 1g/lb limit *is* what's considered to be a "practical" limit. The RDA for adult males is 60 g, which generally is less than 0.5g/lb.
1 g/lb is more than double the RDA. It isn't healthy.
If you have information that indicates otherwise, please feel free to volunteer it...

"All that is left?" I was simply responding to your "it's next to impossible" comment.

Once again - not as likely as being a result of fat and sugar consumption, but likely enough to think twice about insanely high-protein diets.

So we can simply ignore the negative consequences of one diet because there are others that are worse for you? I'm sorry but I fail to see your logic there, and you haven't defined what you consider "moderate to high" with respect to kidney problems. If you mean 1.5 g/lb then I would suggest it may be OK in the short term but not healthy in the long term.
You say most people would be tasked to consume 3 g / kg of protein per day, but I believe this branch of the discussion was centered around people who do stupid things like drink 3 protein shakes a day (which already takes you well over 3 g / kg). My comment was, that's not healthy. If the contention is that there is *no* limit to how much protein one can consume without gaining weight or suffering negative health consequences, I very strongly disagree with that because I have personally witnessed the side effects on people who do that.

I think you've made at least 3 references to "academics" and "textbooks", but I don't read textbooks on this. As far as I know (and unless you have evidence that suggests otherwise), this is "practical" information. |

this is nerd information. lets just all agree that if ur consuming proteing and other supplements in large quantities and dont know anything abt what u are doing chances are ur doing the wrong thing. |

Just don't take too much more than your recommended daily allowance - it's been known to contribute to kidney stones, which are calcium deposit collections. |
