The body can and does store carbs in a coverted form called glycogen(mainly in the liver and muscles). The only form of carbs that can't be stored are fibers.
It also stores broken down protein in amino acid pools throughout the body. These are used for everything from tissue growth (right down to the cellular level) to metabolic/catabolic enzymes, and are heavily involved in hormone production as well. |

well...I selected option 4 since the poll is pretty black and white. I'm naturally lazy...since I don't play organised sports anymore, I'm a bit out of shape. I smoke, do the odd drugs, I drink once a week. I like my occasional McDonalds (like 3 times a month), but I prefer Subway. I don't know how to cook much, so I eat crappy like frozen pizzas, chicken fingers, sandwiches or cereal. I dont go to the gym but I've always hated that stuff anyway. I do walk a bit, and my part time job is physical in the sense of maintenance/cleanup. I shovel the driveway, mow the lawn, that type of crap. I go for the odd skate in the winter and play golf and tennis in the summer.
So, is this unhealthy? Probably...i'm en route to a heart attack at 55 or 60 but I realistically don't see myself changing my lifestyle anytime soon to be honest. |

That's only if it can actually use those things, though. If it already has enough amino acids and nutrients in general, then excess calories are either going to be converted to fat or to waste products, no matter what form they're in.
I'm not going to pretend to be an expert in anatomy but going down this road is pointless - the fact of the matter is, too much of anything is bad for you! |

Regular exercise and vitamins are essential for a Saturday Guv night.
Otherwise I might not last to 7am ;) |

Im with yea dude. You hit MY nail on the head prety much.
Only change McDonald's from 3 times a month to more like twice a week or so. And change Subway to The Pita Pit. I LOVE THAT PLACE too.
And I tend to walk everyday. About 30 mins to work and 30 mins back.
-jem-
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. |

that's a good 60 minutes of walking though! My total walking is probably 30 minutes a day... when I leave the house, that is. I'm not so out of shape that I can't run (but smoking hurts that) because I can, just not for ver long anymore. I'm also always pulling and straining muscles and that has to be from lack of exercise.
But somebody up there said 30 is the time to change your lifestyle and I agree...at the very latest. My goal is to stop smoking by 30, get the drugs out of my system, slow the alcohol down and go to the gym at least twice a week for some cardio...oh, and eat better. Easier said than done I imagine.;) |

Vitamin C is only useful as a preventative measure. Taking tons of vitamin C when you are already sick accomplishes absolutely nothing, other than perhaps giving you calcium deposits.
Please, for the love of God, use some common sense. There is a reason these things are called "supplements" and not "medicine". Don't stop your regular dosage if you get sick but don't increase it either! |
hahah Yes Aaron I totally remember u saying that before...but yeah I was doing something right as I wasnt sick for long :)
yes Jay....I hear ya about sleep..I ing love sleep..too much |

I train in various martial arts up to 8 times a week with 2 cardio sessions followed up in the weight room when the body can handle it. I've only been doing it this hard core for the last 4 months getting ready for competition and will be taking a nice break to let the body heal up after its all done with shortly.
As for eating well... I pretty much have to eat well if I want to be able to keep functioning given this routine. If I eat crap for more than a day or two I feel it catch up really fast.
Practice this morning was pretty rough after having been at System all night. I got about 3 hours of sleep before I had to get up to get ready. I took a nice 3 hours nap in the afternoon before trainning again. |

I am just curious to find out what the majority of you TA's do you take care of youself..weither it's eating healthy, excersing or both?? I really think I need to look into taking better care of myself. I am not getting any younger...and well especially this time of year when everyone seems to get sick.
I have been taking some milit vitamins lately...b/c I know I have a very poor diet and I need all vitamins/minerals I can get. But other than that...I have the worst diet....and well my only work out these days are on the dancefloor. |
Some advice work out fat ass...lol...just kidding...Well just eat healthy food, try to stay away from take out, and other greasy foods.
Try these eating methods, eat till you are about 80 % full, then stop...North Americans have developed a tendancy to stuff our faces and when we actually finish eating we can barely walk. Reason for the 80% is because it takes about 20 min for your stomach to send sensors to your brain that it is full. (this is a Japanese method, I forgot the name). Also try not to eat past 8pm.
Oh and one more thing when yo udo cardio do so for more than 30 min. It takes that long for you to start burning calories.
I hope that Helped.. |
