Agree with Ishkur. It's bland as... well, ricecake. I can't put it any better than that. "Tripe" could be used as well.
However! I won't take anybody critiquing Children here! While it does rely a lot (read: completely) on a simple hook, it does have clear musical quality as well. It's good.
Though I'd rather listen to Ritual of Life. |

| For An Angel, while not the best song of all time, is a timeless classic, a signature PvD tune. To hear it dropped live, is like hearing the theory of relativity by Einstein himself. At the time that the E-Werk Club Mix dropped, it hailed the coming of PvD not as just a good producer but as a trance force that was destined for great things. It was a masterclass of production that to this day still wows the out of a crowd! Can't go wrong with For An Angel! |

I said like that. In that musical style, etc. The piano hook dominated track. In your original post you clearly implied that the track was written so for mass appeal. "Corporate trance" or "not to much trance was concerned with watering itself down so the mainstream could like it" are obviously going to convey that implication, and if you didn't mean them to, you wrote the post poorly.

I fully agree. I find it very bland as far as PVD goes. He's produced so much better. Montana's point has nothing to do with the track itself, but rather your cynical interpretation of the way it sounds- a cynicism you adopt frequently and often without much backing. That's what was repetitive about your post. |

For An Angel
I think the 98 E-work was for pauls Girlfriend.
Anyway IMO Johnny Klimek probably had more to do with FAA then Paul did. |

Actually, the track is pretty par for the course when it comes to PvD.
Most of his entire discography is much of the same. Maybe this is as good as his musicianship can get. Maybe he's just not capable of making anything halfway brilliant. |

Original version = written & dedicated for Natascha, his then girlfriend, now Wife
98 E-Werk Club mix = dedicated to two things. the love parade & the (now closed) classic club E-Werk in Berlin
and the production on the original 45rpm version of for an angel is very simple, infact unbeliably simple. and that was 1994.
only one year after BT drops his IMA album that has a productionlevel that was ten times greater than of pvd's album |

Not really. I found Seven Ways to be a very satisfying, solid trance record, largely free from the clichés of progressive trance and certainly (Forbidden Fruit aside) nothing much like For An Angel. The last four or so tracks are pure hypnotic trance- stuff you'd probably appreciate. Then there's his work with BT, and his remix of Age of Love which sounds like BT was leaning over his shoulder the whole time. He has produced some great stuff.
Anyway. You're avoiding the point. |

| Ishkur, no hard feelings from that post, don't know you so I am not trying to make judgments, but rather reflect on what i've seen you post on here from time to time. What exactly do you like? Do you like anything that is uplifting, melodic? If so, let us know, curious... |

People still like that stuff, even people into harder stuff. No one can doubt they evolved as well, but their catchy pop stuff is still considered timely.

it's a myth that all melodic trance is cheesy. i can name numerous trance acts that made melodic which wasn't cheesy or made for the cheesy market.
