a trance vs. classical thread? Is it the end of the month already??:wtf:
j/k.

My opinion:
Trance is closer to hip-hop than you would prefer to believe.

They did, actually. Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture was considered baseless, gimmicky, bombastic fluff for its day, and just about rudely discarded by the intellectual establishment. It was the "Hit me Baby One More Time" of its day. The underclasses loved it, of course. OMG it's got cannons!

In fact, many of the more popular composers are remembered and preserved through the ages not because they were any good, but because they made addictively memorable pop melodies that the masses could relate to and thus enjoy. Beethoven made more catchy jingles than AC/DC. His symphonies ("DA DA DA DAAAAA!") were of the "so stupid it's good" variety. He was a virtuoso in his day, composing the classical equivalent of power chords as in 'Smoke on the Water' or 'Ironman'. Fur Elise was like his 'Every Rose has its Thorn'.

Both are loop and sample-based, and in 4/4 time. So I would say: yes!

Mozart would not compose trance if he were around today. It would bore the living out of him. He would find it to be a redundant waste of time. He would more than likely gravitate towards making movie music. Really put John Williams in his place.

I suck at determining sarcasm so if what you believe this to be true, enlighten me please because I can easily make the same analogy with any other music just for having a 4/4 time signature which is why I fail to see the connection.

You can't say the same about classical.

Some classical is in 4/4.

And while trance may be loop based, it isn't particularly sample based.

Technicalities my friend, technicalities. What is being compared here is in the general sense, but I don't doubt the existence of 4/4 classical compositions.

Classical is to trance as the Burj El Arab is to a cardboard box.

I don't doubt the existence of trance music that samples.

But the exceptions don't prove the rule.

I agree. By the way you have an error in one of those samples.

Trisco - Muzak sampled Sparks - Number One Song in Heaven

is actually

Trisco - Muzak sampled Sparks - Tryouts for the Human Race

and the Tiesto - Traffic one is Psykofuk - Psykofuk. Sean Deason used the Pyskofuk alias for that track.
