Jeez yshikllr, you are wrong in this thread on many different levels.
#1 - there is a great deal of classical music that is quite moving and stirring of the soul if you'd just give it a listen. It does require more patience, but to say the entire "genre" is w/o feeling is absurd.
#2 - System-J is not saying that classical is better than trance, you were saying that trance is better than classical, and assumed that since he discredited your opinion that he stood for classical being better than trance. No genre is simply "better" than another. Your comparison is like a five year olds.
#3 - I suggest you read some of System-J's numerous columns on trance music (you can find the link in his signitaure I believe) before you insult his intelligence like this again. |
#1: Did I say that? Of course the entire genre isn't without feeling, classical definitely has emotion, and is fun to listen to from time to time, I'm just saying in comparison to trance it's pretty boring.
#2,3 - Good to know, I did assume that. But I didn't see him discrediting any of the people who flat out said classical is better than trance in this thread. If no genre is better than another, then how is it that a dozen people can say classical is better than trance, and no one says anything to disagree, but when i say trance is better than classical, people are outraged? Seems to me most people believe one genre is better than another. |

It is not perfectly acceptable to use "crap" as a straight adjective when insulting someone's grammar, jackass. I'm not messing up (Show me how I have messed up, or can you even do that? You certainly didn't SHOW me how classical music is better than trance), and these things that I'm talking about aren't trivial. They are certainly not trivial when you are stating that I have bad grammar in an attempt to disprove my claim that I am more intelligent than you. |
You're using commas like it's a game of pin the tail on the donkey and you fail to capitalise things you should. These are really basic mistakes that someone who is allegedly as smart as you should be unconsciously avoiding making. The fact that you don't even recognise them says a lot.
| quote: | | How has what you have said in this thread any better? I said trance is better than classical, and explained why I think that. You immediately said I was an idiot and have not explained why classical is better than trance. Can you back up your opinion, or do you just chime in with whatever the majority seems to believe in a thread? |
I'm not claiming classical is better. I've not actually entered an opinion on Trance Vs Classical. But your opinion is so ludicrously stupid that I felt obliged to shoot it down. Seriously- it's an absolute crock. There are so many things wrong with your first post that I don't even think it's necessary to deconstruct it with a counter.
| quote: | | Who uses the word "troll?" I mean, seriously, you might want to leave that out of your posts if you don't want to sound like complete queerbait. |
A troll is someone on a forum who acts solely to cause disruption: whether by posting spam, attacking members, posting offensive content or just posting obvious stupidity to rile people up and derail threads. How the can someone as smart as you not know that? Oh wait, I think I have an answer: you're a ing idiot. |

And, you berating me makes you look less intelligent than you make yourself out to be since it's basically what almost all your posts do. ;) |
How am I being pseudo-intellectual? I gave a reason for my opinion, you did not, and still haven't.
But whatever man, I'm done "berating" you, not really what I wanted to do. I'm pretty sure you enjoy pissing people off, but if you really don't, then just don't be so hasty to call people idiots when you disagree, especially not when they at least give reasons for their opinions. |

There has been nothing wrong with the commas I have used. The fact that you say they are mistakes would indicate that you probably have not taken an upper-level writing course. Or are you a teenager? If you are, I'm absolutely done arguing. There is no point arguing with a teenager. If not, what college did you go to where they teach you incorrect grammar? By the way, you should use hyphens when you say "pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey" and "...should be unconsciously avoiding making" sounds pretty ridiculous and should be changed to "...should unconsciously avoid making." Or do you still insist that MY grammar is bad, dip?
Why didn't you feel obliged to shoot down the opinions of those who bluntly stated classical is better than trance? Could it be because you agree with them? In that case, you ARE saying classical is better than trance, however indirect you may be about it.
Thanks for the definition on "troll." No, I'm not being sarcastic. That's good to know and you're right, I wasn't aware of the term. Not because of a lack of intelligence but because of a lack of posting in forums. I have noticed a general trend that people who post a lot in forums tend to be losers with no credibility in real life. As a result, I don't spend much time in forums and haven't seen many nerdy forum terms such as "troll." I would like to avoid these kinds of arguments, but in this case you were just too much of an so I had to respond. |

Wrong on both counts. You've used commas where you should use hyphens or colons and you've stuck commas in sentences that would have flowed perfectly well without them. If you have ever been on a upper-level writing course then they ripped you off worse than the IQ test guys.

You're using grammar a kid of ten would laugh at. You failed to understand simple stock phrases. I've made a couple of mistakes because I've been writing quickly and spontaneously. You've systematically ed up, smart guy.

This subject is a joke. A running joke. Anyone who participates in it without realising this is a laughing stock. You were particularly impressive because you offered a genuine "One is better than the other" definitive statement and then gave some awful reasoning behind your opinion. I don't support either camp. I think that comparing two vastly different musical genres (on every level from contextual to technical to musical) as if you can seriously decide a "winner" is ridiculous. You ticked every box: congratulations.

I reckon it must have taken a fair amount of time to find out so much personal info on so many people that you can make that kind of statement. Certainly enough time to figure out basic Net phrases. Of course, you're talking and using personal attacks to try and hide the fact that you ed up again.

As a result? You came on a forum acting like the Alpha and the Omega. You came on the ing Internet, pal. If you're so green you don't know the basics then you shouldn't be swaggering around trying to talk about things you know nothing about. You should shut the up and answer the stuff you can. Which appears to be very little...
EDIT: Fixed stuff. |

Hell- everyone else is replying to him. Until a mod bans him or locks this I don't see anything good coming from this thread. |

You acknowledge that you've made mistakes huh? Well then maybe you shouldn't have asserted that I have bad grammar, dip. All you do is say my grammar is bad without actually showing me WHERE it was bad. I show you where yours is bad and you say you were writing quickly. Don't go attacking my grammar when yours is poor. I have made some grammatical mistakes that wouldn't be too hard for you to specifically point out; I'm not perfect. But you attacked my grammar when yours is worse, AND didn't even point out exactly where I was wrong because you are a complete moron that doesn't think logically. Are you even a college graduate, ? It's very easy to not know your and attack someone's grammar, but do you have the credibility to back it up?
Your reply was to the thread starter, who did not bluntly state classical is better than trance. Now answer my question, why did you not attack those that did bluntly state that classical is better than trance?
It took minimal time to find out information about people in forums. I don't even have to post usually. They'll just reveal their age or what they do for a living, and it shows them to be non-credible. Speaking of which, are you a teenager? I would indeed regret my participation in this discussion if you are.
Should I not post an opinion at all if I'm new to a forum? Just because you spend your life on here as an elitist doesn't mean I shouldn't voice my opinion. I could see it if my opinion was outrageous, but my opinion isn't really outrageous at all. Believe it or not, there really are many educated people who think classical music is garbage, especially here in America. I wasn't trying to sound like the "alpha and omega," I was just trying to express an opinion different from all the people on here who flatly stated classical music is better than trance. |

well by all means! share your amazing insight on how you came to such a wondeful conclusion! :gsmile:
"Classical, though technically impressive, is really boring, and if you say it isn't then you're probably a pseudo-intellectual liar."
what an amazingly objective statement - just like you said in a later post, you provided logical reasoning as to what makes trance better than classical :haha:
now let's take your last two lines a bit more seriously:
- "As technology improves, music gets better, there's just more stuff you can do with it."
i'll give you the benefit of doubt on this one, supposing you meant "...music gets potentially better"
- "Classical is genius in that it did everything it could with the instruments available, but was still limited by a lack of technology."
as opposed to trance, which (using the same barometer) isn't genius, because it never does everything it can with the instruments available.
see mr. intelligence? even on your own barometers i can prove classical is 'better' than trance.
thanks, come again, and better luck next time. :gsmile: |
That doesn't prove anything. There could have been a caveman who was amazing at banging a stick on a cave wall that did more with what he had available than classical musicians did. If there was, would you say his music was "better" than classical? I doubt it. |
