I love playing at Aria, and you can be sure, unless the management is not happy with me, that I will be there for a long time...
And you can also be sure that in the following months, I will continu to bring my help and get involve in the club. Simply because i'm so happy when I play there, and my one and only goal is that people leave that dancefloor with a huge smile, and soar feets.
Next months should be very good. I remember last year it was very quiet until May, and then we had some amazing Saturdays until the end of the year... with Timo Maas, Seb FOntaine, NYE, but ALSO on saturday resident nights. Actually, there's been more people this winter than last year, so it looks pretty good...
Saturday May 6th will be a very good night, I know a lot of nice people are coming, and I also hope that all of you who complain about not having enough techno will be there for Alex Bau May 19th. He is SO amazing.
I won't comment about things that have to be change in the club, I guess you are all mostly right about a lot of stuff. I hope Aria is taking notes of your requests...
Don't forget that they are taking HUGE risks and put their asses and money on the line to make good nights. Some are talking about how great it was when Preach was playing, where were you when he came back? Where were you at Junkie XL / Mauro Picotto? You want more international headliners but are you there when they come?
Yes, I know, some of you are there and contribute. That's great. But fact is, EDM scene is oftenly as good as you want it to be, by showing up. And while some claims to hold their breath until Desyn or Sven comes,... well... is it really what you are waiting for? Or maybe you just don't go out anymore and it does make a good excuse to stay home and just bitch about it?
I made a night with DJ Rush for the tech lovers,... 200 people showed up. Don't get me wrong, it was great. But while there's 15,000 people at Bal en BLanc, do not expect anyone to take huge risks anymore, cause most don't even come. Everyone ask to take risks, but the James Holden night was NOT profitable.
It makes me sad when people are disapointed by a local dj line-up, cause actually, they are the ones who love you most, and work hard to suprise you every week with new tracks. They are the musical foundation of your city. Before Aria, having a guest was a great bonus, but it was mostly local DJs that were running the show.
One thing I do know, is that until i'm at Aria, I will put all my energy into rocking those Saturday nights... And I still have great faith in the EDM scene.

Martin, with all due respect i agree with alot that you said but not everything. There is nothing wrong with local dj's.There is something wrong with the same nights all the time. Why not try parties with certain themes?Give a few new dj's a shot?I have nothing against Aria's residents, but week in and week out always the same its enough.
Put the headliners aside, when was the last time we saw an original promotion or party happen?Never...its always this is who is spinning, show up at 2.With a little creativity headliners wouldnt be needed so much to put feet on the floor.Circus does it, Stereo does it, why not Aria? |

| You are right, i'm not saying different. I agree with most requests/complaints, and i'm not saying that creativty and the line-up is not important. My post are a bunch of comments that are relevant or not... if the shoe fits. ;-) |

ouuff that is so true where were the people when preach came back ....
i use to know people that were saying to me that they were friend of preach .... well they were not there when he cameback, that was a sad moment for techno, all those years a place is pack and when the guy is a superstar, they dont comeback, WTF !!!
i got a personal idea, aria should do a resident friends night, example .... Mini & friends, creator & friends, marco g & friends, etc... with unknown dj, could be great and would bring back fun in the dj booth :D
later the dancefloor will become fun too ;)
I all agree with the residents night, normally they kill the international dj and by far, cuz they know what we want
and residents should all promote themself has creator do, could help |

+1 the friends idea is great.
a few of my opinions(not that they matter:p )
-agressive promotion on school campuses. There sre more students in this town than anywhere else in North america and they like to party.
Not enough is being done to attrct the new breed of afterhours clients, and the older generation will traditionally only come out for the bigger shows.
-Theme nights.
Once a month, why not have a little theme night to spice things up.Not everyone who goes to afters are educated on the music or even care like some of us.Throw out concepts that scream out,"OMG ca va etre le party en crisse ce soir la."
ie:The Aria Pimp and Ho Bash,Springtime Beach Party...ect ect.Yes it sounds lame, but concepts will sometimes sell more than the music itself.I remember when talking to Louis about a party i wanted to throw, and he suggested an All Aboard Party( a party for those on the many electronic music forums on the net)I thought it was brilliant and done right could be a success.Music is only one factor. If the dancefloor is full, people are smilling, generally who is behind the decks wont matter as much.Find your target market, and persue it aggressively.
-Little Extras
Give the clients more options than red bull, gatorade, water.
Bring back the juice bars/smart drinks. The overhead is not too high to make this, and the mark up makes it worthwhile.By doing this you are encouraging people to spend $$$ instead of filling up a bottle of water in the washroom.People dont do this because they cant afford water, they do this because you feel stupid paying 5$ for it more than once.As much as i think some of the bells and whistles at Circus are stupid, they sell.Money in the clubs pockets means money for improvements.
-Covers: Cheapest covers do not always equate happy clubbers.Dont be afraid to make the client pay a litlle more if he gets a little more. When i see a club charging 10$, it doesnt appeal to me just because it is less than elsewhere.I'd rather pay more and get more.
Those who go just because it is cheap are also those who you wont likely make any money off.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. So many great and simple ways to try and intice the people into the club.Once you have them there, do things to keep them there. We always hear about the Stereo family....maybe its time to make an Aria one;)
And noway...I was there for Preach in october and it made me upset too that all the oldschoolers missed out on such a great set and night. Are you Anne's sister?
Also the comment about dj's promoting themselves is true.If all the residents took a few hours to help hype the club like Martin does, the results would be immediate. |

at the anniversary me and my friend had brings little happy birthdays hats, but no one wanted to where them, The O'thym crew was there to party :P

I AM SO MAD I WAS BORN IN 19-FKN-85!
NO SONA FOR ERIKA.
NO PREACH RESIDENCY NIGHTS AT ARIA FOR ERIKA.
NO SATOSHI/SANDER RESIDENCY NIGHTS AT STEREO FOR ERIKA.
NO...well, alot of good times in Montreal's EDM scene history have been missed by my ass because of my age.
It really really REALLY sucks...
When I talk to older people about the scene, like allnitefreak, for example, I am so damn jealous, it's incredible. Let's continue making history guys...This thing called EDM is just too precious to let it fade away...I think everyone here can agree with me on that. |
sweety, i was born in 1987, and ive witnessed and experienced preaches fridays, aria in its glory (3 times a month), the sona days, stereo not yet, but wtvr
the law honestly:D if i never got carded at 14 at aria, anyone can:D |

I agree. I wouldn't clame to be friends with PREACH, just a huge fan, but I was there that night and the place was not empty but it wasn't packed. Thought for such a huge mtl name it would of been packed :conf: |
