Borgetti set to miss remaining group games
13 June 2006
Mexico striker Jared Borgetti is facing an eight to ten-day lay-off after picking up an injury in last Sunday’s game against Iran in Nuremberg. The Bolton Wanderers forward limped off 12 minutes into the second half and was replaced by Francisco Fonseca.
A statement released by the Mexican Football Federation confirmed Borgetti had injured the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg after chasing down a ball in the Iran half.
According to the statement, the extent of the injury was revealed by ultrasound and CAT scans, with Borgetti requiring between eight and ten days to make a full recovery. Further scans will be carried out in eight days time to assess his chances of returning to action.
The results mean that the Tricolor No. 9 will miss his side’s next game against Angola in Hanover on 16 June, and is doubtful for their final Group D match against Portugal in Gelsenkirchen five days later.
Borgetti is Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer, having racked up 38 goals in 76 appearances. The prolific marksman topped the scoring charts in the CONCACAF qualifying tournament with an impressive haul of 14 goals. |

i agree, that penalty was a horrible call, but even if that kick didn't happen and the USA ended with a tie, they would still not have advanced to the 2nd round |

well to get that penalty awarded against you right before half-time was a momentum killer. i really believe the US could have gone on to win it if that penalty hadn't been called. |

ya, we had a few close goals that could have made it.
Like the headbutt and the long goal attempt. |
