Dude, you're being ridiculous. You don't necessarily need to try something to know that it's not for you. People make judgements about what they want and don't want to do based on the properties of the thing in question. With your apple example, if someone in the past didn't like things that are shiny, red, and round, it's perfectly logical and understandable for them to judge that they wouldn't like apples, even though they never tried em. |
Doesn't make them any less close minded for not giving it a chance...
I had a horrible time at TIL when Roger Sanchez came.. but gave it another go and completely agree with Jon Jon.
Having This Is Miami/This Is Not Miami on the Radio is bound to change the dynamic of the crowd (one that I am not looking forward to) but such is life..
Heck.. I went to Sander in Miami just to go because my friends wanted to. (They had agreed to go to all of the other parties I wanted) I had seen him at the System party and enjoyed myself but was not blown away like everyone else...
I went there expecting mediocore and was completely blown away.. enough to say that party is in my Top 5.
If you want to go.. go. If not then stay home and leave more room for the rest of us.. :D |

And regardless, information isn't factually accurate based on who the reader is. (or audience is in this case) |
i agree with this.
just because they don't know, doesn't mean it's right to say that it is.
they look to the people on the radio as experts on some subject and they hope to hear the correct facts. sander is not a new up and coming DJ. someone has to do research or at least be in the know about this stuff.
that's like saying paul van dyk is releasing his sophomore efforts. |

Consider this:
The majority of z103.5's audience have never heard of Sander, nor his exploits. To be blunt: they are not familiar with him.
Why is the fact that z103.5 announced "Sander Kleinenberg is THE new up and coming DJ" such an unreasonable thing???
For someone in the scene and in the know the proclamation may seem absurd - but for z103.5's audience (for whom they target their programming) the statement is absolutely acceptable.
Based on z103.5's audience - the programming, the statements and the info-bites make PERFECT sense. They are educating the majority of the people who listen to the station.
The above reason is why all of these "OMG! z103.5 ..." threads have an absurd fog of arrogance and very little merit (the side discussions that result sometimes do however).
Mocking a media outlet for it's audience and education of said audience is the same thing as watching Sesame Street and then mocking it (and it's audience) because it's teaching children how to count to 10 (or the A, B, C's, etc).
Disclaimer: this not meant to bash anybody who posts in these threads, creates them, etc - it's just trying to give a different perspective to what z103.5 is trying to accomplish and maybe how we as mature citizens should be a little more understanding and flexible when relating to the non-scene world. |
its the fact that they proclaim everything as being "new" thats pissing people off. Why not leave the word "new" out and stop saying that they "play everything first" when they dont?
Either start playing everything when its new or do it first, or shut the F up! Just because guido from Maple has never heard of sander K does not make him a new dj. Instead they could say something like:
"this guy has been around in the electronic world for awhile and now Z103 is bringing you his latest tune" But that wouldnt have the same schlock/sensational gino value now would it?
Lying to your audience is just plain wrong. |

well said :) ...except maybe the folks @ Z103.5 should explicitly say how long Sander K has been dj"ing" and producing tracks, etc. b/c their label of Sander being "an new and upcoming dj" is misleading, no?
To go off topic...
TiL IMO is one of the many nice venues to showcase such great talent b/c...
1)It has a more intimate setting than the Guv at least (I saw Sander @ Decadence and I did enjoy his set there, but I thought to myself how nice it would be to hear him live @ a smaller venue like TiL).
2) Its sound system is decent for most nights (well at least the nights I've been there).
3) The lighting could be crazy at times...but it's bearable :)
As for the issue with the crowd...it's pretty much inevitable that you'll encounter the pushy, "plastic-like" crowd @ some venues...I guess you gotta just deal with it. But IMO I don't think it should be the reason to flat out not go to check out talented djs @ TiL at least once... |

Exactly. If you're going to go with the Sesamie Street example, you'd have to compare it to Oscar telling the kids the hottest sound in words was the brand new letter I. I mean seriously, come on now. |

| I heard a recent set of Sander's...holy ...his stuff still sounds refreshing and hot...without being too commercial...he's still my #1...and I won't let grillo heads get in my way at TIL. Shoulder dance FTW :clown: |

I'm greatful when any headliner DJ comes to Toronto, and I'll go see him no matter what kind of box he's playing in.
We should be lucky for what we get, shouldn't we.
and what happened to it being all about the music anyways? |

There are some annoying things about TiL, but it's the same with every club. Granted, I bitched and bitched after Roger Sanchez about the place, but that was because I was denied entry. After many more parties there, I realize that it is my favourite club in the city for a not-so-hard night out. Good tunes, beautiful club and hot girls. What else do I need?
Yes the crowd can be annoying and pushy at times. But who cares? That's pretty much the only annoying thing about the club. |
