First off, while he had one stellar cd, another very good one, to say the man "mastered" house/trance is a huge overstatement. Where was the consistency? IMO what made him hugely popular ie the balance sound, was not around for long enough, nor experienced enough variation to be considered a mastering of the sound. He was on to something, had loads of potential and then seemed to drif off into the territory he's is in now, and I believe has been in for over 2 years.
Which brings me to my next point. He's been tossing this "new" sound around for a while now. Enough with the benefit of the doubt. The man is falling flat on his face and is refusing to accept it. Which can only lead one to conclude he loves the smell of his own farts. That is all. |

the lp is more of a ' you' statement to the lapdogs of popular dance music (cough cough tranceaddict)
it's not everbodies cup of tea, but i'd say holdens done a pretty good job of being the change he wants to see in the electronic dance music world. as far as being an artist goes, thats kind the point. ask yourself, what are you doing for music that is different? it's pretty hard when all you do is hammer ty electro house.
i think the guy is just disenchanted with techno music, and i'd say the lp does a good job of displaying that. |

First off, creating a disc as a " you" is perhaps the most retarded form of creative expression I have ever heard, but at this point I wouldn't put it past this guy with his holier than thou attitude. What he is doing has been more or less done before, or is currently being done right now, as pointed out in this thread. So he is neither as original as you or he make his creations out to be, nor is he the brave, lone pioneer that he seems to fancy himself. |

Indeed, these tunes are so idiotic that it would be very difficult to find such non-sense and stupid music. (music? no i don't think so). This album is the musical equivalent of a post-modern "artistic" creation that i saw last year. It featured a toilet with something written on it and the whole idea was to symbolically express a statement. This is just stupid i don't consider this to be art. Art should represent aesthetic qualities as well not just "hidden ideas and concepts". And for one thing there is nothing aesthetic about THIS album and THAT toilet. Simple trash.
As i stated in my previous post there is so much good music out-there that deserves to be listened.Why waste money on such non-sense acoustic noisy disharmony which lacks content and shows a complete absense of feeling?Even industrial and death-metal music-that is-the most "harsh"and "noisy" genres of music that exist out there, encapsulate their own unique feelings such as anger, desperation and angst. This is just non-sense.If this can be labelled as "music" why not listen to the steady buzzing sound of your refrigerator instead? |

I am a huge, and I mean huge James Holden fan (not the trance Holden from 2002-3), the BC Holden from today.
I was deceived with this album. Not because its not good. Its genius. Like everything James touches.
However, it was not fresh. There were previously released tracks: Lump, 10101. 2 songs are "samples" from others, if you like. But I must say Corduroy and Idiot is magic.
However, I have heard he is preparing another album ! |

none of the songs on the album had been official released before idiots. however some have been played out by holden for quite some time (primarily lump...) and 10101 was just on atc.
i'd agree that it wasn't the 'freshest' release but having mixable versions of the tunes is always a plus :) |
