The Idiots are Winning
After listening to this cd I've concluded that Holden has delved too deeply.
After such successes with his earlier works there always comes a time
when a degree of diversification is not only required for the sake of
the longevity of an artist, but also for keeping the entire process
fresh enough to stave off nausea.
Holden was on the right track with his colab with Julie Thompson entitled "Come to Me". That track (most notably the Club mix) saw this style of production but managed to pull it together with the right melodies and the right vocals. Than some remixes came out in this style (See Holden's remake of Madonna's "Get Together").
To me, it seems like he's out to satisfy his own urge to do something different as opposed to making his fans happy. I beleive he's eccentric enough to go along with this for a while.
As old a concept it is to do more with less, it doesn't work well here. On the right track, but on the wrong train.
Personally, I liked "idiot" because it worked to satiate my
desire for an actual melody on the cd. It has a keen progression and is my pick.
Either way, we're all BUZZin' (hehe) about it and will probably look forward to Holden's next offerings. |

So... what? Boring and/or plain are the only options one can listen to? |
No, but orientate into something else, something more genre blending away from the commercial marketing influenced stuff.
What is wrong with intentionally left blank? It is for the ones who listen to the ep in full lengh. The first kick of the idiot tool almost made me jump out of the seat. I think that's what it was made for. Or at least to provoke the people who can't get into the tracks at all even more. To me it fits perfectly into this ep. |

That proves my point. You automatically say his music is so bad, there just CAN'T be anything like it you can provide as examples. How does that make any sense? Your argument makes no sense because music is totally subjective. You can say you hate it and find it has absolutely no redeeming qualities, but that doesn't mean it is a fact. It isn't. Unless you provide some further logical reasons and evidence, your argument has no validity and thus, the idiots ARE winning. It's opinions likes yours that limit musical and artistic progress in music and other media forms. Fortunately, people like Holden exist and push the envelope and move things forward. |
What does this record say artistically, then? You are defending these tracks because they are a sign of "artistic progress", but do they have a meaning, or is it art for art's sake? |

People will always hate what they don't understand. Which is quite a tragedy in my opinion, because then anything thats simplistic or generic gets evolved into something 'great' by mass amounts of simplistic and to put it bluntly, close minded individuals.
Yes, different opinions can of course exist, but any of you who sit here and say "this is not music", are the exact type of people I wish would forever step away from art of any kind, because it is you who bring the quality of any arts to its lowest common denominator, because you demand what quite frankly is not of opinion -
why do you think Tiesto is such a major artist? Paris Hilton? Jessica Simpson? There are "artists" in this world that have never had to lift a finger like Paris, and have full fledged "music" careers.
The great japanese noise artists Masami Akita (Merzbow) once spoke
"If your referring to 'noise' as unpleasent sounds, than that would be pretty much everything you people listen to"
It's one thing for an artist to put out a ty record, its another thing for an artist to put out something different in a field of music full of absolute heads who have no idea that their "underground" is one of the biggest money making machines on the face of the earth, and that 90% of the music they buy goes right in the pile of that pop culture has spawned.
Kudos to Holden for putting this out and I think that your giving him the exact reaction he expected. You see, the idiots ARE winning, and thats why ty music is so popular.
once again, this is noise you jackasses My Band :-) |
