I just got home, and WOW, was it a packed and wonderful night. I have NEVER seen this many people before at previous MMs and I've been going for 4 years straight. :eyespop:

We exited the freeway at 9pm and didn't get to park until practially 9:45pm. The local roads were sooooo backed up because of this event. Getting in didn't take too long since we had hard tickets (maybe 20 or so minutes of waiting?).

As soon as we got in, Markus was banging away. He dropped some great tunes, and I was thinking this is going to be a great start for the night! Then Armin came on and he spun some BEAUTIFUL melodies. I couldn't ID his tracks because I'm not familiar with his new stuff, but whatever it was, it was GOOD. Then Judge Jules came on around 1am and he kept everything going. By then, the main floor AND the bleachers are completely filled. WOW. Lastly, PVD came on at 2:30am and maybe it's because it's near the end of the night, but I couldn't get into his music very much. We stayed for about 20-30 minutes listening to him, but nothing got us excited, so we decided to leave (and dodge the mass traffic later).

Sorry this is kind of short, since I've got to catch some zzzzz's, but I hope everyone else enjoyed this night as well! It was great seeing some familiar faces (and new faces), as usual. :D

I HAD A BLAST!!!!

Even though I showed up at the peak time everyone was getting there, I had an amazing time. I met up with Sweetcandy Girl, Ben, and Khris while waiting for my friends from Mexico to arrive. Once they arrived, I hanged out with them most of the night. It was great running into the usual suspects, but I didnt see too many TAs there.

As much as I liked Monster Massive, the overcrowd ness, the pushing, and the smelly kids were something I didnt enjoy. There were too many cracked out kids that it made it almost impossible to enjoy. I tried to block from my head and tried not to let them bother me, but they kept pushing rudely! I almost got into a fight several times when some idiots were trying to cut in line to buy waters. One thing about me, you cant push me. If you do, I will go into defense mode pretty quickly and Ill become a dick.

Anyhow... This was BY FAR! The MOST PACKED Monster Massive, or Event at the Sports Arena I ever been too. And trust me, I've been to countless events there. It was BEYOND PACKED. I was not even trying to make it to the front of the stage. Forget that. I stood by the side most of the time.

When I went to the bleachers and looked at the crowd, there was no room on the dance floor. It was packed from front to back. Usually there's some room on the back, not last night. WOW! The bleachers were equally packed. Too Packed! Same goes for the house room.

The music was OK. It was nothing special, but it was fun. Several tracks got played several times but that's ok.

Tracks I remember, there's more I know, I just forgot their names...
AS THE RUSH COMES (Hadi ******, drugs were ing with you. I'm almost sure it was Armin that played it.)
 LIFE LESS ORDINARY (Gazillion Times)
 GODZILLA - WITHOUT YOU
DAVE 202 (I Forgot the name of the track)
4 STRINGS - TAKE ME AWAY 2006. (I heard it at least 3 times)
KUFFMAN & PLANT - SUMMER DREAM
 ALL THE PVD USUALS
 DEEP DISH - FLASHDANCE
 BLUR - SONG 2
PINK FLOYD - ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL
 EURYTHMICS - SWEET DREAMS
ROBERT ARMANI - CIRCUS BELLS (Classic from the early 90's played by Felix)
MANIX - 88 TO PIANO (WHOA! Talk about a classic played by PVD. This song is from 1992 and it's one of my all time favorites. I used to play it a lot back in my early techno days. Nice PVD Reworked.)
PLASTIK MAN - SPASTIK (Whoa! Another classic from 1994 played by PVD).
FELIX DA HOUSECAT SILVERSCREEN (Whoa! I havent heard this one in a while)
DEPECHE MODE A PAIN THAT IM USED TO (Jacques Lu Cont Remix)

GETTING THERE
Hahahaha N00bs. This is how you do it....

I got off the freeway on EXPOSITION DRIVE at 9:30. I took the right lane, which was empty cuz it turns right and everyone wants to go straight. I turned right onto EXPOSITION. Took it straight to Vermont. Parked at a Taco Bell and took a . Then went back on Vermont onto MLK, made a Left, then Parked on a little Parking Lot across the street from the Sports Arena. There was NO TRAFFIC going this way, cuz I was driving in opposite directions the whole time. It took me like 5 minutes from the freeway to the parking lot.

GETTING MY TICKET
Again, this was a piece of cake. I went to the Groove Tickets booth and there was NO LINE. Woohoo... I got my General Admission ticket, and walked right in through the back entrance through the houseroom. The line was 5 min at the most. Why does everyone think they can only go in through the Front doors? It's a stadium for gods sake. There are always multiple entrances. Hahahaha Oh yeah,

TIP
When going to any event at the Sports Arena, either get a Ticket Master ticket, or Groove Tickets Will Call. Why? If you get a HARD TICKET that's a Groove Tickets, you either have to exchange it for a TICKET MASTER TICKET or you have to wait in the LONG LINES with everyone else. The Sports Arena uses Ticket Master tickets almost exclusively. This means, they have MACHINES that scan your ticket and they let you right in through a separate line. Just a TIP.

MARKUS
I'm not a fan, but he was playing harder than usual. Way harder. I really couldnt get into his set, so I took off to the House Area, which was GOING OFF!!!! Oh man, so much electro house was being played. Plus it was just a better vibe. Not as packed as inside.

ARMIN VAN BUUREN
Is it just me? Or does it seem like when all these DJs play at festivals they play a lot harder. Wow, I had just heard Armin's set from last week and I really liked it. On the set he played a lot of Electro and some good trance. I was hoping he played like that, but nope! He banged it out HARD! It almost reminded me of the old Armin from 2001-2003. He was good, but it still didn't make me want to stay there. Back to the houseroom it was.

JUDGE JULES
Holy !!! Another DJ that was way different than normal. I think all these Dj's were just trying to keep up with each other. The Judge wasnt "CHEESY" at all. He was really good. Again, he was someone I used to look up to back in his hay days, and he regained my faith in him last night. He was Awesome.

FELIX THE HOUSECAT
Hes THE MAN! Man, he was playing so many fun songs last night. Whoa! I think he and PVD were my two favorite DJs for the night. He played a lot of classic remakes. He was on fire.

PAUL VAN DYK
Holy Jesus!!!! Nothing like his set at Vanguard last month. He was WAY HARDER. He played like the PVD I grew up knowing - HARD since his very first song. Hahhaha I liked how he looped his intro just so that the techs could switch coffins so they can hook up PVD's massive set up! Hahaha He's still no Sasha at Ableton, but he's getting better. There was a time when he had several tracks at once, or beat from one song and lyrics from others, while adding weird effects on Ableton to them. That was awesome! Holy !!!
DaveT
copied and pasted from the review I started last night and finished earlier :p

Typed from my cellphone while at MM
ok this is from a phone so quick.

huge lines off urge freeway because something is also going on in the stadium. came competition or something.
went a diff way and prob saved 45 minutes.

get in right when markus gets on. i give him a 7 out of 10. first 45 min a ten but the last 45 felt he was a bit over the place. great tracks, just weak on the progresssion.

armin on now and amazing through 45 minutes. reminds me me his sf set in july. more to come.

OK, the rest from my computer...

Anyhow, Armin's set was decent in the end. Much like Markus he started off real strong, but the last half of his set was not as good as his first half. Still great, just lost a bit of momentum.

Judge Jules got on and did a decent job leaving off where Armin started. So much, he played a track at the beginning of his set that Armin played. :p

The place actually did get pretty darn packed, but I still had a harder time walking around at the LoveFest Afterparty. Interesting thing is that I actually think the main floor area at the Bill Graham is bigger than the arena's. It's wayyyyyyyyyy wider and still has pretty good depth. And it was more packed towards what wall at the LFAP too me, and the hallways were packed too.. Way more seats at the LA Arena, though. And TONS of people on the big ramp outside last night with people taking breaks. If they were all inside the place might have been scary. Had to be a couple thousand people out there, maybe three. It was actually a neate seeing so many people just hanging out up the big ramp. :p

Again, I was way disappointed with production. My first MM since 2003 and the production seemed like it hadn't gone anywhere. They had 4 or 5 lasers but there were no props to bounce them off of to create any decent effects. Lighting was sparse. With the sound, where the hell was the bass!! At least is was clean, though. Sorry, just that this years LF Afterparty production realllly upped the anti on west coast massives. Still nothing comapred to Europe, though. :p

After Markus finished his set he came down to the VIP area to say hi, sign autographs, take pics, etc. I was trying to talk to him when he first walked over and this just like rammed up into me and made me spill two drinks. I wanted to kick his ass so bad, but I know better. Markus was like WTF and asked if I was OK and I was just patient and waited for him to finish with them so we could chat a little which we did.

Interesting thing, like 90 minutes later the same guy did something to some other dude and he ended up doing to the guy what I wanted to do. He got his ass kicked and security just like stood there and watched for a good while. He deserved it.

I somehow accidentally ran into Armin while he was on his way in and he tried to stop to say hi before the guy with him just started like making him go...basically because Armin was running late and basically had to go straight to the stage and get ready if he was gonna start on time. oh well.

Anyway, beyond that all the e-tards started to get even more retarded and the non-vibe atmosphere got even worse. The vibe was just wicked bad, IMO. And that just killed the night. We wanted to wait for PvD so bad but just ended up leaving during the middle of Judge Jule's set because we couldn't take it anymore!!

Music wise, I thought this night was fantastic. With the exception of Markus who i thought was disappointing (surprisingly) all the djs delivered big time. Surprise of the night was the Judge who contradicted everything I heard about him and delivered one of the hardest sets I ever heard and considering I was expecting to hear Radio 1 nonsense , i was blown away even more

What was disappointing to see was all the underage people some probably in their early teens messed up beyond belief on chemicals. I wish they would restrict this party to 18 and above atleast but since i thought a majority of the crowd was probably below that , i cant see that happening.

And I went V.I.P which was such a waste of money. You had no view of the DJ and the sound in the area was crappy and i ended up dancing on the main floor for the most part of the night. Ya they had an open bar but it took like 30 minutes to get a drink.

A great night neverthless.
