What kind of an educator would I be if I wasn't objective in my studies?

Perhaps it could be considered propaganda if you're an idiot - but for the rest of us who are adults capable of seperating fantasy and reality, it's merely entertainment.
Oh well, at least the irony in the WSWS calling anything propaganda gave me a good laugh this morning. |
So it's only propaganda if you're an idiot? I would think that a thing either fits the definition of propaganda or it doesn't, regardless of the intelligence of a particular viewer.
I really can't say whether or not I'm capable of separating fantasy from reality, how would I know?
I do try to suspend judgement as much as possible for entertainment purposes, but I must admit to being particularly sensative to political propaganda. If I can detect it then it's too heavy handed and therefore insulting.
I'm not familiar with WSWS, but regardless of it's reputation it should be simple enough to determine the merit of the article. Are you saying that 24 doesn't contain blatant right-wing propaganda as stated in the article?
Again, I'm not familiar with WSWS, but I am somewhat familiar with the FOX network and when it comes to politics they seem to have a distinct right-wing slant. |

s sake - you aren't really this dense, are you?
The bottom line is that 24 is a show that is set in a fantasy world, NOT REALITY. If people watch the show and feel as though it's telling them anything at all about how they should act in the real world, yes, they are complete idiots. There's no debate here.
As far as the WSWS, they're an organization that exists solely to promote a socialist agenda - they could disect the Care Bears and tell us how it's right wing propaganda, but that doesn't mean their arguments are logically sound. |

How could I know if I was dense or not? That's a rhetorical question isn't it?
I was unaware that propaganda was limited to realistic reportage.
I doubt that most people would watch a tv show and say "hey, they show scenes of torture by "good guys", so torture must be good." I imagine that successful propaganda would be much more subtle and work towards subconciously desenitizing people about such issues. I have no doubt that most intelligent people can pick out the blatant political programming, but for me it ruins the experience. As I stated previously I'm easily offended by these practices.
Please remember, I haven't seen one episode. Since you're familiar with it, perhaps you would give me your opinion about whether or not it incorporates right-wing messages into the plot.

It's a show about terrorism - of course there's going to be military/intelligence/etc. emphasis, which I think makes it an easy target, especially in the post 9/11 social climate. I don't, however, believe that the show supports an specific "right-wing messages."
Propaganda to me, is something that is designed to denigrate an ethnicity, culture, race, person, issue, etc. implicitly. The idea of "subtle propaganda" you suggest is, in reality, just the inability to seperate the fantasy from reality. I think your "oversensitivity" to the issue is indicative of the general "PC culture" that exists in the U.S. which only leads to unnecessary censorship.
Groups like the WSWS and all other political interest groups are generally able to contort any image into something that fits their own devices. In general, the people who buy into their cultural assessments of any media image are simply unable to make up their own minds, and need a faux-intellectual political interest group to make their mind up for them (Please note, I'm not referring specifically to you, but the more general group of people who read this kind of rubbish without actually checking the source). |

Especially considering that each season has it's fair share of white, black, asian and even presidential and government officials taking part in the terrorism.
It divides it up equally, and promotes no propaganda. I highly suggest watching it before bashing it based off of claims from one news source or one person's opinion. Decide for yourself, don't let others decide for you. |
