the average spent on a wedding in nj is about $35k. before we started planning our wedding we said we would never spend that much. then we found out that you can't have a decent wedding in NJ for 200 people for much less. our family is very important to us so it is difficult for us to have a smaller guestlist.
so i don't really know when i got "engaged" but we have been planning our wedding since august. i don't have a ring for a few reasons: 1 - paying off debt is a higher priority than getting a ring, 2 - we want to wait until manufactured white diamonds are on the market (he has issues with mined diamonds), 3 - i can't wear jewerly to work for another year or so, so it would be a waste.
i definitely want my diamond. i like them because they are shiny. call me superficial, but i don't care. i have had people say to me "you don't have a ring? then you're not engaged." it makes you feel less excited to share your engagement with people. not that it matters because we are doing it for us not them. it definitely depends on where you live. i am from nj and the ring is a huge deal there. i live in california (bay area) and no one gives a damn there. |
