leopold: yeah, its mainly a return/reward thing. Being kind of tired or hungover ruins my whole day.

Fledz: Studies show that 10 hours of sleep is just as bad 5. Its hard on your body and takes years off your life.

Isn't that what I just said ;)

I was reading about this a few weeks ago actually.

If you get less than 6 hours than your body hasn't recharged completely and around lunchtime you start to feel it.

If you sleep over 9 hours then your body secrete an excess amount of hormone which means you remain tired for the rest of the day and it has been reported in some cases to even damage organs such as the liver and kidneys. Only in like 14h+ regular sessions though.

7-8 is ideal so I try and get that much but I often sleep for a bit longer. I love sleeping so I can't help it :p

That's so true. I've been getting 4-5 Hours sleep lately and starting work at 1pm and feeling really groggy and tired. As the day progresses, after several litres of coffee's, my body will start to perk up and I'll feel a lot better around 7-8 pm.

i was like that myself when i was getting 4-6 hours of sleep. i didn't want coffee to be a dependency on my life, especially when i saw that 3 full cups(10 oz) of coffee did nothing to me.

hehe its cool. Yeah I was just really surprised at the study. everyone knows no sleep is bad for you (RARE individuals it isnt) but I never knew how bad too much sleep was. and them saying it was *as* bad freakin blew...my...mind.

The thing is I've been doing alot of work on Hormones at uni recently and it really allows me to see it even better.

A good way to think of it is this: You know when you drink a moderate amount of alcohol and then you roughly know how long it will take for you to sober up? Well when you drink way too much then it takes ages. This isn't so much because of the amount but because you overload your body and actually slow it down.

Same can be applied here. Your body can normally flush the sleep hormone pretty quickly but if you oversleep you can have too much, so you can remain sleepy for the rest of the day. The only real way to counter the effects is to have a massive release of adrenaline but too much adrenaline can also be bad for you (liver failure in extreme cases) and it's not that easy to get the adrenaline out. You're pretty much screwed either way.

This isnt directed at you but most people who "cant" sleep have a ed up life and need to do more with it instead of hanging out all the time.

Talkin from experience here. also when youre like 23 youll start sleeping more. 18-22 I slept for naught

lol i agree but barely remember that far back. :o ftr, i'm 33, work full-time, travel excessively, and actually do have insomnia.

yeah sleep hangovers are brutal and then you go to bed at like 7pm again that night and do it again.

That makes sense though. Kind of weird your body has that problem self regulation is pretty good most of the times. Except sleep paralysis. When God invented sleep paralysis he was giving a glimpse of Hell.

I still have it too. I did the whole 9 but there is a window of opportunity and if you miss it youre up all night. get in bed with a book around 8:30. As sooooooon as you get sleepy close your eyes and try to sleep.

Also, not being hydrated makes you hot, uncomfortable and will ruin your sleep. Start sleeping with a jug of water near the bed and it will change your life.

Glass not jug. A jug will make you get up to piss which will ruin everything.
