well dont DRINK the whole jug. I wake up 6-8 times a night to get hydrated. I think its the A/C but still. having to get up ruins your sleep. eyes close, grab the jug, take a gulp, close , pass out. cups you can knock over and stuff.
I use gatorade cuz its delicious and satisfying. the 1 gallon Arctic freeze stuff. |

wow. yeah i usually drink a cup of ice cold water before i go to sleep to feel comfortable, but i didn't know gatorade could also do the trick? gatorade usually helps me stay active, not sleepy. :)
and also, i found out if i wake up a minimum twice in the middle of the night, no matter how much sleep i get, when i wake up, i will still feel tired the rest of the day. maybe it's different for other people, but i think the process of waking up from my sleep drains a lot of energy from my body or something? |

I still have it too. I did the whole 9 but there is a window of opportunity and if you miss it youre up all night. get in bed with a book around 8:30. As sooooooon as you get sleepy close your eyes and try to sleep.
Also, not being hydrated makes you hot, uncomfortable and will ruin your sleep. Start sleeping with a jug of water near the bed and it will change your life. |
8.3op? *wince* :nervous: water on the nightstand's a life saver, though! :D |

takes me over a week to go through the gatorade. I brush my teeth at night and it takes 24 hours for decay bacteria to colonize and do damage. I brush again in 8 so no worries.
I usually try to swig some water around to chase it though so less sugar in there. the sugars what keeps you awake so I try to drink a bunch of water before hand, get a good pee, and then pass out. the gatorades just to quickly replenish hydration |

gatorade used outside of working out or heavy exercise (and studies have actually proved that this can be bad too) is very bad for you. the sodium (aka salt) build-up is horrid. also you get too much sugar among other things. i cant remember the full reasoning but those 2 were the worst.
oh and i get 6.25hrs a night m-f and sat/sun about 6.5. this seems to work well for me. i dont get tired throughout the day and i dont have major problems getting up. it seems that 7 hrs is the best for me. 8hrs is normally too much and im feeling ty the whole day. less than 6hrs i am ed.
iclone: i have a really close friend that has serious insomnia but she also has serious anxiety. both keep her up. :( she seems to sleep pretty well when im around though. i dont get it. there are probably 2 or 3 others that she sleeps similarly well with but otherwise she sleeps like . |

not sure whether it's a comfort or security factor, but i can relate to your friend's situation. i'm sure my anxiety and depression play pretty big roles in my lack of sleep, as well... |

Part of it is from working out and drinking lots of water throughout the day. I dont get enough sodium from protein shakes and protein dehydrates you. Just trying to keep gatorade to 1 cup a night while youre sleeping isnt that bad :whip: I stand by that |

Insomnia in most cases is a mental problem, not a physical one. It's usually attributed to stress/anxiety/depression etc. The good thing about that is that it can be cured so it's not all that bad. You just have to be willing to cure it ;)
In rare cases it can be a genetic defect in which case I definitely feel for you. Then again, there is a rare genetic disorder which allows you to stay awake for months. Apparently those people do suffer for about an hour every night due to apparent pain in various body areas. |

i can definitely say that besides not doing a lot throughout the day, major depression led to sleep. Depression makes it hard to sleep, anxiety makes it hard to stay asleep. didnt know where I was going in life and always felt I needed to be doing something to fix that. RACING mind at night, ugh I hate to think about it. |
