You're a DJ right? This isn't DT sitting at home making his girlfriend a mix CD on iTunes, he's ing working.

Without other's work making paint, Monet is nothing. It's not just the colours you love, it's the painting. It's not just good track after good track, it's the nuance in his mix, his level/pan/eq/etc...you should know that.

Ego or not, he has a point.

I do, it's pretty good.
Very techy by teneglia standards.

I recall Misstress B getting majorly upset over a recording of a set of hers a few years ago and the way she explained it was that in Europe the laws are different and promoters are legally not permitted to release recordings without DJ consent. (I'm paraphrasing dramatically here)

It's generally understood that permission is not needed from the producers of the tracks since a/ the track was already purchased and paid for by the DJ and b/ producers love having their tracks in sets and distributed widely - it's more exposure for them.

So it really comes down to the DJ being particular about their sets - and there are compelling arguments for sets to be released and them not to be released. But ultimately, it is up to them. The set is more the property of the DJ who put it together than it is of the promoter who knew how to record it.

I wouldn't go as far to equate paint to music. You can make art without paint, but can you DJ without music? I don't think so. There is a limit to how much mangling a DJ can do with music that's already pre-recorded, and as such you could NEVER compare DJing to music composition as a means of artistic expression.

He has a point that these guys are lying bastards and they should have not recorded the set when him being there clearly means that a contract was signed saying not to and they were told verbally, with that I agree. With that said, he deserves to complain about it, but I disagree with his views on set recording completely.

DJing or music production for that matter is not 'work', it's a hobby that pays, it's something you love to do, and if you really do love it, then how can you call it work. Work is working in construction, that's work.

To add to that, although he's right, I find his over the top, I-know-everyone attitude to be such a turn off. I agree with him in principle, but suggesting that he can persuade everyone he knows to take sides with him and screw these people over in return is so ridiculous. What are we, FIVE?

Danny's right, but such a diva!

ahahaha.. couldn't have said it better!

While I personally think it's no big deal, Danny makes it very well known how he feels about being recorded. He even puts it in writting in his contracts.

A deal's a deal. They didn't follow through, that makes them shady IMO.

The scathing letter could, in theory, get Danny in trouble and open for a countersuit of threats and defamation of character.

Anyone else think that CLOROPHILLA sounds like an STD?

PS. WOuld it be wrong to post a link to download the set in herE?

Not if he can prove that they did, in fact, illegally record and distribute the set....which he clearly can provided he has the contract.

yes you can.

I see turntablists do it all the time with just tones, simple beats and other various sounds ;)

Yes, and no...you can't break the law just because someone else broke the law to avenge it.

Say I killed someone and then someone else killed me out of revenge, they would still have to face prosecution.

Uh, you're not allowed to love your work?

You have to do physical or mentally straining work to be called work?:conf:
