I tried taking a video of Danny T at Guv. I actually had no idea that he was against videos since a)they don't record the sound properly anyways, and b)half the web is filled with his stupid antics. Why do stuff in the booth, and then expect people not to want to record it if they can? Just a 10 second blurb to make him more of a legend. So he flipped out on me and said: "NO, NO, NO, NO videos. STOP IT NOW!" Ruined the entire night for me. Not just from that point on but the entire night. He could have a) not flipped out like a whiny and asked me nicely or b) not bring down the stage the whole night or c) played well to keep me dancing and not be bored out of my skull and trying to entertain myself.
I knew he was a jerk/diva but that was the straw. Get over yourself. Or are you just being yourself? |
Wow Margs that's brutal. Would've been a total buzz kill for me right there  |

So if I plug my iPod into a stereo I'm a musician? And to think I learned guitar for nothing.
NOT the same.
Exception: DJ's who build a track from layering straight up tones from the decks (that beep-boop-beep), scratching and sequencing.
Mixing tracks a musician does not make. |

Yeah... Gotta find that thread again. Though search function came up with no hits :(
What is the key in defining a musician? Ability to play the instrument, or the artistic creativity that goes into playing the music? |

Good call.
Like I said, I'm not looking to start a fight but imagine if I had decks for toying around at home. I wouldn't call myself a DJ, I might spin, but I'm not a DJ. I respect the work that goes into what DJs do tremendously - and you can give credit for that to Mike Colas who took some time to show me how you do it...much more difficult than I thought. Between beatmatching, mixing and whatever other technical aspects you incorporate, it's an art. Add to that track selection and the ability to interperet and play to the audience and it's as impressive as anything else - but it's not a musical instrument.
Interesting Sidenote: I do corporate events. There was a wedding last year who hired in a Top 40 DJ...halfway through the night the 'DJ' caught up with me outside for a smoke and started telling me the client was being a bitch, blah, blah, blah...so I go talk to my client (I had no connection to the 'DJ', I was doing a video presentation and decor lighting) to see what's up. This 'DJ' was basically just running iTunes. When a request was made, he did the old 'drag and drop' into his playlist. During teardown we got to talking again, "I'm a DJ...blah, blah, blah" and I told him he could only call himself an entertainer at best...we're not friends. |

| He produces music, that's why I used the word musician. |

If they want to take pics or videos go nuts
if you don't want them to then find a new line of work
again im sure mr teneglia makes more than any of his fans make in a year in one night
or put it on the flyer... no cameras... see just how many people buy tickets to see the show then. |

| Meh, this is Italy we're talking about, I thought it'd be news of some serious corruption and shady dealings. I love Danny on the Decks but honestly, what a whiny little bitch he's being about this. Having one set of hundreds or even thousands recorded is really nothing to cry about; the only thing that isn't cool is that they lied to him. But again, we're talking about Italy! |
