I was in My local bar in New England yesterday when the news broke that Teixeira was joining the Yankees.IT WAS PRICELESS. No one even knew that the Yankees were even interested so all the talk was about how the Red Sox were going to be unbeatable next year with Mark in their line up. THEN THE BOMB DROPPED, "Mark Teixeira is a YANKEE".
I'm the only Yankee fan in the bar. What started out as a few sociable drinks with friends ended with Me being abused by the whole Pub (My Wife included).
Turns out anyway, Boston don't need the "money grabbing scumbag anyway" and that The Yankees will finish fourth behind the Blue Jays. |

| Spending 424 million on 3 players is ridiculous. I don't care what anyone else says. Texeira is not worth the kind of money he got. |

I missed this awhile ago.
I never said Bay was the caliber of hitter that Manny is/was. I just was saying that it's a good deal getting something for Manny before he walks away via free agency and we got nothing at all. Bay was pretty damn clutch for us. I am over Manny and so is Boston. If the Yankees or anyone else want to put up with his bull than so be it. He was a bad seed for a long time and wore out his welcome. |

I'm fine with paying the players over $20 million a year, i just don't like the 8-year contracts. Cuz in 4 years from now, they won't be what they are today. We could end up with another Pavano and Giambi. O well, here's hoping championship #27 comes sooner than later.
Everyone else feel free to discuss..... |
Good luck with all the pressure, yankees fans! If the yanks don't win the world series in the next 2 years, this will be seen as a horrible failure. That being said, i think the yanks will pull it off in the next 2 years baring a major injury or two. I'm not sure if Manny will sign with the yanks...seems like that might be too many cooks in the kitchen if you know what i mean.
but Tex signing with the yanks is great for both sides. Tex gets to remain a low-key guy who just keeps doing well, and the yanks get one of the best players in baseball for the next 8 years....I wish the sox had made that deal....
anywho, the sox will resign Tek this year and go after Joe Mauer in 2010!! |

Texeira had no intentions of signing with the sox at all. Scott Boras just used them to drive up the asking price for the Yankees. He might be a total douchebag but I would want him as my agent. He didn't ask the Sox to match the offer so it's clear where Texeira wanted to be the whole time.
My dream is someday prying away Albert Pujols from the Cardinals but I don't think it would ever happen haha |

Giambi was 3 years older than Tex when he came to the Yanks and a huge steroids abuser. This caused his body to break down very very quickly, on top of all the internal issues that came from his steroid use(tumor). Tex has been raking since day 1 and has never been suspected of taking roids. I don't see him breaking down - and an 8 year deal is what it took to get him. I'm fine w/ that.
I think the Yanks majorly overpaid for Sabathia, but oh well - it's not my money. He is entering his prime time years as a 28 year old - as is Tex. I think both of these players best years are ahead of them and I don't remember anytime 2 players joined the Yanks in the beginning stages of their prime. I think Burnett is a moderate injury risk, but I can live w/ having him around. |
they overpaid for all three players. tex is a significant upgrade over giambi so i can live with swapping giami's contract for tex's contract. Sabathia is a solid number 1 pitcher so you can't really be too negative about overpaying for him. On the other hand, in ten seasons Burnett has only pitched more than 200 innings three times. 16.5 is wayyyy to much for him. although, from this point on it doesn't really matter how much they spend because i'm already priced out of any good seats at the stadium. |

if you evaluate a players worth on some social utility scale then no athlete is worth a multi-million dollar contract. it's a shame athletes and their agents have been able to drive contract values so high. I don't think fans really care whether athletes are of the super-caliber level or just very good athletes. As a result, fans would probably be just as happy with a field of players worth (current market value) 500K as they are with athletes worth 20M (i.e., sports without the few super athletes making ridiculous bank). After all, i think college football is the most popular spectator sport in the US and those athletes get nothing. |

| I tip my cap to the Yanks for doing a great job keeping their plans quiet about Texeria. The fact that NOTHING was leaked to the NY press about their plans is an achievement by itself. |

That is pretty impressive in this day and age. The Red Sox were definitely giving out false information to the press that they weren't really in the hunt at all but they clearly were from what I've heard after the fact. |

Ditto... :( . I have no idea why they threw that much at Burnett, but like you said... whatever. |

| The Yankees lineup isn't that amazing, even with Tex. After Tex, it just kinda drops off. |
