Listen, all i ever said was that i don't think Pedro is THE greatest pitcher of all time. Now, if u cant handle the fact that someone has a different opinion than you, than maybe you should just put on your helmet and get on the small bus and go back to school and learn that not everyone is gunna agree with you. All i'm saying is ERA is not the end all be all stat in pitching, and yet again u have a ing seizure and flip out. I'm done trying to respond to an idiot who starts this whole thing by posting about the mets in the yankee forum. So have fun in your little world because i refuse to acknowledge your pathetic existence from now on. |

i hate to disagree bro, but while shamez was explaining why pedro is the best pitcher ever (with very relevant points about particular stats and how some stats are overrated), you countered and said that wins are all that matter. to support that you used this less than effective statement (which makes all of us knowledgable fans think you know nothing about the game):

Winning is everything. When the end of the day comes, a win is a win regardless of how it happens and thats the only stat that determines whether u move on or not. |
As for mets fans posting in the yankees thread, to be honest, their posts are more than welcome because they always have quality posts. |

You only don't think Pedro is great because he played for the Red Sox and Mets. I bet you don't think Manny Ramirez is one of the top right handed hitters of our generation either.
Also... I don't see me "flipping out" anywhere in this thread. You're the one that's flipping out in every post. |

The last time you flipped out on an NYTA baseball thread I believe was 2005, when Vlad said Al Leiter is a good pitcher :p

Hah. I'm more laid back than anyone I've met. But, when someone says Al Leiter is good, my brain just goes into "What the ckckckck!?!?!" mode. I can't help it. After watching him for 2003 and 2004, and then seeing what he's done this year, how anyone can say he's even close to decent is beyond me. The Yankees would be better with someone from their minors, I'm sure. Wasn't that dude Sean Henn a lefty? |

Al Leiter bless him,,he seems like a nice guy and he's a decent commentator but whenever I heard he was gonna be pitching I used to throw and break things.. |

Here! Sorry for the delay, needed some time to recover from wmc. Also, not going to brag about last year considering this year has started with Schilling out, Beckett's back on the fritz and Sox Nation getting excited about (gasp) Bartolo Colon becoming our fifth starter. Seriously, Colon? I'm nervous.
As for evaluating pitchers, the stats I find most useful are WHIP (Walks, Hits per Innings Pitched), strikeouts and home runs allowed. In my opinion, ERA and wins are a bit too dependent on other factors to be concrete, reliable stats.
As for Pedro, I'm obviously biased but you can't really argue with his numbers when he pitched in a Boston uniform. That said, the Mets paid way too much for him and the benefits have been, well, sporadic.
Finally, for fantasy players, I drafted Kosuke Fukudome way too early in my league but it's been paying dividends so far. He's lived on base this week. |

Well... they paid a lot, but signing him had a much larger effect than just getting a good pitcher. It changed the whole outlook of the franchise. It gave them credibility in a time where the organization had none. Players want to be Mets now, rather than just wanting to take the money they have to offer. |

Haaaa! I totally forgot about that. It still makes my brain hurt that anyone could've said Al Leiter was good at that time in his career. |
