yeah ive done that once, when i switched to win2k...not really interested in that now, tho it was easy. most all tasks are brisk enough, just intensive programs and mem hogs like firefox take a bit to start out. i only have 256mb which doesnt help much. (but it was a pretty good upgrade in 2002 or so! (oh and my 37gb of space on two drives is mostly taken, C doesnt have much page/defrag file space which is slowing things a bit.
hey i got NOLF2 running pretty smooth so thats not too bad for my box. the power supply or fan is also hellaciously loud too. thats getting old

make a quick browse of craigslist for 2x512mb sdram sticks. im sure you can get them for like $20 or so. good investment even if youre considering getting a new machine. a quick, fully realized, and cheap solution to that problem...the hd i wouldnt bother with. none of the drives currently sold on the market would be properly supported without an overlay driver. something i wouldnt do personally unless i had to. |

good idea...im a little slow on the uptake sometimes. and i had totally forgotten about the HD compatibility issues, but i wasnt about to buy a new one of those for this computer, plus i have an external place to store most media type files

make some sense of this tho:
DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE..., 128, 133M, 16X64, 4K, 168
128 is mb, the rest means little to me.
will i be able to find DIMM that old? my quick craigslist search only pulled up newer units.
EDIT...i did find a 1ghz pIII for 15 bucks, but i dont think it will plug into my board...hmm |

haha sometimes i forget about that too. thats good that you have an external place for your files. keeps it safer, relatively. :D |

i found some 133 but its only 256...
and i only have 2 slots, so that wont help..

I had a micro-ATX motherboard w/ a micro case. With 5 HDDs and the weather getting warmer my computer started to overheat and shut down.
I just got COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP a few days ago:

I have 6 120MM fans going. Overheating will never be a problem again. Of course my computer now sounds like it is ready for lift off. |

i was looking on the denver craigslist and had the same problem. im like, WTF there used to be such a glut of this stuff! lol..i hate to say it but ebay is prolly the only place you will find anything worthwhile with regards to that. since most of the stuff retail will be god awful expensive. so ridiculous.
on the cpu. basically do you have a SLOT or SOCKET cpu? the p3 800 was at the transition time. they had both up to 1ghz. if socket, then get the 1ghz since its $15. also the numbers on those memory modules mean a lot of things. 128mb, 133Mhz as in PC133, 16x64 is wrong. the guys an idiot. usually it will be like 16x8 which means 16 little chips that have 8mb of memory each on a single ram module.
also check pricewatch for sdram. its $15 for 512mb on there.
and i just checked ebay and its $15 for 512mb PC133. including shipping. |

'that guy' is DELL and yes, he is an idiot. i just pulled up the shipping specs with my build code, so im not shocked if theyre wrong...
the processor reads thusly:
PROCESSOR..., 80526, 800, 256, 133FSB, FIBER CHANNEL..
and this link is for the p3 1gig
http://processorfinder.intel.com/de...spx?sSpec=SL4C8
nothing to tell me...but heres a dusty cell phone picture

i really dont wanna use pay pal so i will check out the other link first
