config on pricewatch/1stchoicememory says dimension 4100 accepts up to 512 and they recommended memory for...wait a minute...65 dollars!!!
i think the 512 is likely right, but i will not pay that much for memory on this machine

'that guy' is DELL and yes, he is an idiot. i just pulled up the shipping specs with my build code, so im not shocked if theyre wrong...
the processor reads thusly:
PROCESSOR..., 80526, 800, 256, 133FSB, FIBER CHANNEL..
and this link is for the p3 1gig
http://processorfinder.intel.com/de...spx?sSpec=SL4C8
nothing to tell me...but heres a dusty cell phone picture

i really dont wanna use pay pal so i will check out the other link first
it looks like a socket cpu to me. so the 1gig will work. plus its a dell and they quit using the slot cpu at 600 iirc. since thats when they re-introduced the socket cpu.
so yeah just get something off pricewatch for the ram as, its $15 for 512mb of pc133. cant go wrong for $65 to have a faster cpu and 4x the ram. that will help HEAPS. |

hmm well i found a site on pricewatch that has p3s 1.0ghz+ for cheaper than the craigslist price, 8-13 bucks!
do i need to stick with the 256kb which goes to 1.13 or would going to 512kb be at all possible? i doubt the latter, but this one store could sell me all of it without any craigslist cash based hijinx

the 256k and 512k have to do with ondie level 2 cache. unless you are playing games, which you arent, you wont really notice a difference. so either works. the 1.13 = the BEST p3 iteration. not because of the fact it was the last, but it was the fastest which also beat out the p4 at 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 ghz. ;) |

well i have two 256mb sticks and one 1.13 256k p3 for 38 bucks before shipping...sound good? i think its pretty sweet.
but it would be just a few bucks more for the 512, i just dont know whether its supported...i suppose 256 wont be any worse than what i am currently dealing with!
thanks| |

512 = 40 bucks, so two means much more...(at this one site tho)
basically its just the dirt cheap/quality sticks that are 15 at that price... |

yeah i liked the idea of ordering it all from one place, but i think i will get the 8 DOLLAR processor from them, and the mem from somewhere in the 14-17 dollar range...hehe|
EDIT:
it has been done...i ordered 2x512 and the p3 1.13 for 63 bucks

nice. i agree with trying to get it all from the same place, but $40 each for an older technology that they are just selling what they have in storage/low quantity manufacturing is just ridiculous. so now you will have a marked improvement over what you have now! and wont look back. will make the rest of your machine run much better and last a bit longer! :D |
