Unless dell was ing stupid and used motherboards that didnt accept anything other than 1 cpu type, then it should work. i HIGHLY doubt that they did that. that would be the most expensive operation ever.

so if i get another HD can i run a cd burner and the drive on the same ide? do they still need to be master/slave? if i copy my C onto the new drive and then swap the drive in with the jumper changed will everything boot right? or do i need to do a fresh install?

Well, I wouldn't suggest using the old install with a new motherboard. Lots of stuff gets left over, and it usually runs slower. I would suggest a new install.

And yes you can have 2 drives on a single IDE cable, but you must do the jumpers for master and slave. Alternatively you can set them for "CS" instead. CS, or Cable Select, just detects them and deals with it automatically, but cable select can cause problems at times. I don't personally recommend it.

Yeah totally agree. Also, I know you dont want the $60 you already spent go to waste, but you'd be much better off spending ~$200 and getting a new mobo, cpu, ram combo that is much more up to date. You could also buy a massive HD with that too since size won't be an issue anymore.

you guys listing the case you have as part of your computer specs are lame.

mmm page files...i set them up (only had one for the original drive/partition), even some small ones and my computer is blazin compared to before.

the ebay was legit, but when i searched the model number on google nothing came up...but i had already purchased it. the seller was a total dick, but he had some right to be. customer service doesnt much exist on ebay i guess.

ships tuesday so i guess i may have it by the end of the week, he wouldnt detail shipping but it supp cost 16 bucks. tho i doubt it will be priority|
