I'll say that the genre referred to as "minimal techno" is slightly different because it has a specific purpose. The tracks on their own are still basically , but they're not supposed to be interesting, they're supposed to be idling-bus simplistic so a good DJ can screw around with 3 or 4 turntables and a metric assload of effects and modulations. That can be a lot of fun, if done properly, which it rarely is.
However, you only see that kind of show from a handful of "elite" techno DJs. There's absolutely nothing more boring than listening to a DJ try to spin minimal tracks like a normal house or techno set. The tracks themselves are boring. It only gets interesting when there's so much going on simultaneously that the DJ is essentially producing new tracks using bits and pieces of the existing ones.
This negates nothing I've previously said; the tracks are still thrown together with a minimum of effort and thought.
