was talking to someone at a rogers store the other day, you can only get the iphone by signing a 3 year contract with them. It's not going to be available for purchase on it's own, or for a shorter contract term.. it's 3 years or nothing. |
Not yet anyways, they will probably eventually allow people to get it without signing a 3-year contract.
AT&T just came out with their prices ant its $599 & $699 for the 8gb & 16gb.
It's the original $199 + $400DECF (Cancellation fee) which comes to $599.
Expect something similar to that, because if not not, you just buy the iPhone for $199 and sign a 3-year contract, then cancel it and pay the $400 Early Cancellation Fee....

Just spoke to Rogers. If you already have a contract with them, you have to 'qualify' to 'upgrade' to the iPhone. You need to have a proper sized accumulation of payments, consistent good payment history, and a hefty plan already (someone with a basic plan would be denied to upgrade).
That said: with my current accumulation of over $2000 this year alone, and the fact that I met the requirements stated above, the iPhone prices for me specifically are:
$349 for the 8GB
$449 for the 16GB
When purchasing you need to go to a Rogers store and present 2 forms of ID. You do NOT need to pay via credit card (which was required from AT&T in the US on the initial release), though you will need a credit card to activate your iTunes account which will then activate the iPhone for registration.
If the plans do change in the coming months, you have free rain to switch to a more appropriate plan if you do so choose.

I asked about this as well, and the current early termination fee is $20 / month left in your contract up to a limit of $400. So it will still be more than the US if you want the phone outright. |

If Rogers is treating the iPhone as something that you have to qualify to get, they can suck my ing balls.
Not that I'm getting one in the first place, but that's just a load of horse. |

when they say "you qualify", they really mean : "you are dumb enough that we could milk you even more..."
a 2000$ for half a year is way too much money, hopefully, Chris, its your employer that pays for that bill. |

yeah, they'll sell out on the first day, but its going to be hard to sell it since there are a lot of restrictions around it.
I know in the US, once you buy the iPhone (well orignally) you had 30 days to activate it or else they were going to fine you if you didn't. Things may have changed a bit since then, but I wouldn't buy an unlocked iPhone just yet as a consumer.
I know up here in Canada, Rogers, if they wanted to, could screw you out of any kind of decent plan if you have an unlocked phone.

Well i know a loophole. But the end result of it is i will end up with the 2 phones at 299 each w/o the 2 year contract.
So i mean as long as i can sell one for 600 i am good to go LOL |

I'm sure you will be able to sell one for that price so might as well do it.
PS, here is the first iPhone 3G owner (well, one of the first) lol
He is camping outside the Vodafone store in Auckland, NZ
