guys beware, there will be new players in the 3G market in 2009, with most probably lower prices than today!
Don't get stuck with 3 years contracts because the iphone is so cool... |

Just pay the ETF then...
it's not that bad. If you think about how much you save in the subsidized cost for a phone, it could be beneficial to sign up for a 3 year plan, then pay then the ETF when you want to switch.
Plus, my gut feeling is, that Rogers/FIdo will only have 'unlimited' data plans for those who sign 3 years agreements when purchasing the iPhone. That's just my feeling but who knows.
PS. When I switched from Bell to Rogers a little while ago, i was never charged the ETF, and Bell actually credited me the pro-rata amount on my bill for leaving early :D
yay bell!

Exactly!
Knowing Rogers, the $199 for the iPhone will be nothing, compared to the price of the unlimited plan.
I'm going to say the best case scenario is $50/month for unlimited service. Our friends in the US at AT&T are currently at $30/month, so $50/month would seem like an excellent deal (compared to what we currently have).
$50 + Voice Plan (there might be clause where you need to have a minimum of $30 voice plan) + Add-Ons (Voicemail/text/call display etc.) + SAF + Taxes = Not Affordable
After realizing that the $199 is a great value, one has to think about the overall price.
We won't know for sure how great of a deal this phone is until the data plans are released.
I can see them screwing over a lot of customers. "Sure little Girl, we can give you a 15MB data plan for only $15/month..."
When they get the next bill and see that they used 100MB worth of data from playing on Facebook & MSN....
Uh Oh..there's going to be some poor people out there (aka parents...)

I highly doubt it going to be 199 or 200 on a three years deal, The Numbers quoted where in U.S$ which by Rogers conversion rates still = $400.00 on a three year contract for a Phone thats almost 2 years old even thought this is the 2nd gen. of it!!!
Tele-Communication in this Country has gone from World Leaders to Sub-Third world over the last 20 years!!!
Disgrace... |

Not really...
You failed to mention that it is the iPhone 3G that is coming to Rogers, not the iPhone...
and that the price is $199, not $200...
and that its based on a 3-year contract...
And also that it is coming to Fido...
And that you cannot self-activate the iPhone like previously before, it can only be activated in-store (aka Apple or Rogers/Fido)...

Here it is again ... good old Apple controlling everyone.
I just realize something, two of the most evilist companies in the world are teamed up for this phone.
One is gonna bait out a cheap hardware to get you, and hope to sell more media via itunes and the other is gonna be totally unfair w/ pricing of data plans and etc.
Talk about controlling ... this is unreal! Apple has gone above and beyond this time. |
