IPHONE coming to ROGERS for $200 July 11 (pg. 7)

Pretty much the same data plan prices as AT&T stateside, not bad at all.
I'm on an expired Fido plan, a reliable cash source for them. Maybe they will cut me a deal. Don't want to get stuck on a 3 year contract - this phone looks great now but it will be really stale after Apple comes out with updated models. |

$30 for the data plan looks great for this.
With a voice package with a few added features I am motivated to pick one of these up.
Wonder if I can get a discount with my TV/Internet plan. |

i'm pretty sure you can only buy them at Rogers/Fido stores.
They have to be activated in-store.
I don't even think you can buy them at the Apple store.
That is what has been confirmed in the US (unless they change it after then).

That's the plan right now in the US.
You can ONLY activate it at the phone stores because they want to prevent unlocked phones to be available on the market.
You also can only activate the phone at your providers stores as well. Before you just activated the iPhone on your own, however not anymore.
Also, they have stated that there is going to some kind of financial penalty if the phone is not activated within 30 days of purchasing it.
Pretty much, the only way you can get a phone to see is if you buy an iPhone, wait 1 month, then pay them ECF & DECF ($400 total I believe) and then you can keep the phone once it is bought out.
Don't expect unlocked iPhone 3Gs to be cheap!

Even if this is true, I'd still be scared to use the web on my phone, going to any sites I want, and surfing around. There's gotta be some loop hole of stuff you can't do. I just don't want to think it's all cool, then I get a bill for like $1000 for data charges. I still don't trust this at all lol. |

because from what I've read, you can't buy a phone from Apple Period.
You can only buy them from Rogers & Fido. If you click on 'where to buy' on the iPhone Canada 3G page, it only shows Rogers & Fido.
Even if you are able to buy it from Apple, you are still required to get a 3-year plan.
If you look on the US apple website, it shows that you have to sign a 2-year contract with AT&T to get the iPhone 3G.
Doesn't appear that there is a way around this right now.

i wonder what'll happen if you buy an iPhone 3G from a grey market dealer or 2nd hand whether they'll block the ESN from the network .. if so .. bastids

Well, they won't block the ESN since ESN's are primarily used for CDMA phones (Bell/Telus aka Non-Sim Card Phones).
Roger and Fido, which use SIM cards, have IMEI (which is the same thing) and currently do block non Rogers IMEI phones from using certain features.
Currently, they do not allow non Rogers IMEI phones use the Unlimited Mobile Browser for $7.
But yeah, expect that to be the case!
