Finished the first cd. Meh. Some of the mashups were awful and noisy, and some of the mashups were alright.
Overall, lé meeeeh.

I think CD1 is brilliant so far (25 mins in). And im not even a techno/'minimal' fan, more into deephouse...
I never had the feeling i was going from track to track 2, not had the feeling snippets n bits were used to 'compile'/build a track. This is the re-invention of a mix compilation.
And a true recommendation for everyone, even if you're not a real fan of techno/techhhouse/minimal/deephouse-ish stuff ... this is worth buying. Masterpiece! |

Finished listening the whole mix comp now, and this is quite easily on one of the best things which mightll happen this year :).
My first thought after the first listen is that both disc resemble a day.
Disc 1 starts off at, lets say, the end of the evening/begin of the night, 10 pm or such. It'll take you into a clubnight. At the end of CD1 you'll go to bed and fall a sleep after a nice night of clubbing. The music in this part is very nice, quiet, fluently mixed, fluffy and almost beatless.
Also, its almost as if CD1 & CD2 are mixed into each other wit h respect to their specific sound. When playing bot CD's consecutively, i didn't notice i was into CD2 after 5 mins. The beginning of CD2 is more housy, funky, groovy. It sets the atmosphere for the day; you're full of energy, fresh, and ready to go. |

Eh, it might have been that when I was listening to disc 1 I was getting back into my tired of tech-house mood.
Disc 2 is much better. |

| This is ing remarkable. I didn't expect it to sound the way it does, tbh. Just got done with disc one and just began listening to the second one. |

a purist?
ok, let's get one thing straight. all of the above is possible with the use of technology (software). i would call jeff mills a real innovator when he dj'ed with six different turntables, i would also call richie and ricardo purists and innovators because (once upon a time) they were able to mix it up with serato, vinyl, cdj you name it...
on the other hand, a mix done digitally; using presets is far from my own concept of 'unique' and 'innovative'. kenny dixon jr (moodymann) can mix house, soul, disco and rhythm and blues (from the eighties to early nineties) without missing a beat, seamlessly, that for me is pure! the underground resistance! that for me is pure, but this! it feels like the kind of compilation any kid with a credit card, an internet connection and some nerdy friends can put together. no offense, the man has some degree of talent, but it's this hype which is a bit too much in my opinion... |
