Balance 014 -- Joris Voorn [EQ] (pg. 13)

No doubt about it, this is a brilliant mix.

Both cds are great in their own right, each offering cohesive yet differing styles. CD1 is a rhythm and textured based mix while CD2 offers more blending of melody. Can't pick a favorite.

And to the poster who suggested that this is nothing more than a bunch of presets...can't say i agree on that one. It is pretty obvious the a lot of time and thought was put into making this mix. He just didn't slap 15 of his favorite tracks together and called it a day. This comp is essentially 140 minutes of his remixes...

Anyways, Digweed tried to do what Voorn did here but did not do it nearly as well (i still give credit to the guy for trying though...and to be fair there were moments where it worked for him too).

This is a very strong candidate for mix of the year...and its still very early. Hopefully, this encourages and inspires other djs to put more effort into their mixes. Cause offering the same you can find from live sets just doesn't cut it anymore.

ok, let's get one thing straight. all of the above is possible with the use of technology (software). i would call jeff mills a real innovator when he dj'ed with six different turntables, i would also call richie and ricardo purists and innovators because (once upon a time) they were able to mix it up with serato, vinyl, cdj you name it...

on the other hand, a mix done digitally; using presets is far from my own concept of 'unique' and 'innovative'. kenny dixon jr (moodymann) can mix house, soul, disco and rhythm and blues (from the eighties to early nineties) without missing a beat, seamlessly, that for me is pure! the underground resistance! that for me is pure, but this! it feels like the kind of compilation any kid with a credit card, an internet connection and some nerdy friends can put together. no offense, the man has some degree of talent, but it's this hype which is a bit too much in my opinion...

True: you might be correct on some points, especially the first paragraph (i dont know e bout techno, never listen to Mills, Richie, Ricardo, etc. But they may be the inventors etc).

And you also might be correct when it comes to Joris mixing this digitally is not that difficult. Perhaps any kid w/ credit card could do that.
But the idea behind the mix comp (not that he's the inventor of 52 tracks mix comps, but the thought of how Joris thought its should sound)), together with the track selection, mixing in key, etc, isn't something any kid could do.

Believe me, Joris is renowned by all the big names in techno. He's an artist, who rather makes 1 track a year thats good, rather then putting out 10 big hits (like some other big minimal/techno names do).

If one guy hasnt been infected by the virus yet, its virus. And no kid in the world, even with the biggest sum of cash, or amount of free time, can do the trick Joris does.

Sorry but youve missed your point a bit winston. Do you homework better next time ;)

Liked the first disc over the second. But both will be getting major replays from me. This stuff will keep fresh for a while I feel.

Yea what a load of crap. Make me a 30 minute mix like this one and I'll take that back. It's more than just about having the time and the right tools.

Skimmed quickly past the first CD and it seemed well put together but boring as except for Radar. The second CD seems more pleasant.

Will report back when I have dedicated more than 30 minutes to judge over 2 hours of music.

Well, you are certainly a kid with a credit card and an internet connection. Get your nerdy friends together and enlighten us, please!

CD1 was very interesting, it had some rough moments but overall I thought he did very well with what he was trying to achieve.

Have yet to check out CD2.
