Brutal!
not because Pallin is a bad choice...but because I see this as actually helping McCain win.
McCain already scored some votes from Democrats who were disillusioned with the long battle between Clinton and Obama, the fiasco of the Florida and Michigan delegates votes being tossed, etc.
With Palin, McCain probably just scored plenty more female voters. Hell, he might even score the undecided redneck vote who can stomach a female VP before a black president, lol!
sure, his choice undermines his 'Obama is inexperienced' position, but a young female running mate also combats the image of McCain being an old, out of touch, rich, white man who will be 'same old, same old' if elected.
It was never going to happen, but the 'sure thing' for a Democratic victory was to have a joint Obama/Clinton ticket...with that ticket being decided MUCH earlier in the Primary season before the party fractures became potentially irreparable. But neither of them would blink and the party was too split to focus on WINNING, rather than "their candidate" being the nominee.
Too little, too late perhaps...but Clinton was dead-on during her speech when she said that this was about the party winning, and preventing the Republicans from staying in office. She should have taken that advice herself MONTHS ago and bowed out gracefully (even though she was my pick over Obama)
The Democrats will have themselves to blame if they lose. After two Bush terms, this election was practically gift wrapped for them to regain power...yet the polls are a statistical dead heat. |

That's what happens when you pander to the whimsical and frivolous. They love to talk and swoon and go to demonstrations and campaign rallies and put up signs and be viewed (they think) as caring and passionate and well-informed, but come voting day they almost always flake out.
Don't people ever wonder why public opinion polls always skew in favour of the liberals/democrats?
The thing is, though, it's not really a question of rallying the troops, of getting those left-leaning youth voters to get up and vote, because if they care enough to vote then at least half of them usually also care enough to do some research, at which point they become cynical heartless s like me and realize that the Dems are completely full of . So it's kind of a wash either way when it comes to the actual election. It's just the pre-election stuff that always tilts to the left. |

Incidentally, has anyone noticed just how much "Obama / Biden" looks like "Osama Bin Laden"?
Coincidence? I THINK NOT!! If you vote for the Democrats you're voting for the TERRORISTS! |

I begrudgingly agree...but hope this proves false come OUR election, apparently this fall (so much for your promised fixed election dates, Stephen 'Hypocrite' Harper!). |

Haha jesus. Thankfully the people who go for that stuff are the people who don't bother showing up to vote.
All his speeches sound the same. "Hope" or "change" every 3rd word. He's wonderful at saying a whole lot of nothing and saying it passionately. I promise hope, change, hope in change, and change based on the hopes of those hoping for change. I foresee changes in the hopes of the hopeful who don't often change their hopes for change. I stand for continued hope in these changes. And eating babies. But mostly hope.
McCain is, quite frankly, a RINO, which is why he decided to go for a woman with such little experience as a running mate. Still, he'd be a great leader because he's principled and (somewhat) conservative but doesn't have the cowboy image that Bush does, no matter how many times rags like the AP throw out bull words like "maverick".
Obama killed any chances he might have had by joining up with Biden. McCain made an... iffy choice, but not a completely ridiculous one. VPs aren't necessarily expected to have that much experience (Dan Quayle anyone?). |
Frankly dude you talk as if you actually know what is going to happen (and it makes you look like a know it all, which people usually despise). Why does Biden kill Obama's chances? He will destroy that novice Palin in the VP debates, as Obama will wipe the floor with McCain.
McCain is 72 ing years old and he has a history of medical problems. He confuses Chechyna with Czechoslovakia, can't remember how many houses he owns and honestly believes that the middle class can be defined as anyone who makes under 5 million dollars.
I'm sorry but I believe that most informed Americans are fed up with this recent stint of neo conservatism, just as Stephen Harper will likely feel some big time heat in the next election, especially in Ontario. |

The debates matter little: Kerry did the same thing Obama is going to do in the debates with Bush...

Again, compare him to Bush who was voted in for two terms...

The problem is that "informed Americans" is a small minority, lol. |

I don't even know where to start here...
Biden has NO supporters. Okay, well maybe like 3 of them in the country. Everybody already knows him for his classic 7-11 comment and other idiocy. He can never keep his mouth shut and always makes stupid comments. He will be slaughtered in the debate, as will Obama, who is great at "broadcast" style speech but has no edge in a two-way conversation where he would be forced to talk about real issues and actually take a stand (or come up with some clever dodge).
McCain's age and medical history are entirely irrelevant. He has never confused those two countries or done any of the other things you said (where do you get your information from, Daily Kos?). Not that I'm surprised to read this from someone who believes aliens are watching us. I can only hope that the Democrats try to sling this kind of mud because it will only make them look even more stupid to the undecided voters.
Most "informed" Americans actually know what a "neo-conservative" is and have never even attempted to apply the label to Bush, whose policies have been some of the most socialist in decades. Most "informed" Americans would certainly not try to apply that label to McCain, who is if anything a neo-liberal and has next to nothing in common with neo-conservatives. That term is primarily used by two sets of people: Israelis, who use it correctly to describe their communism-turned-democratic political system, and hard-left moonbat Americans and Eurotrash who already use "conservative" as an epithet and think that the "neo" prefix somehow packs more punch.
Harper probably will feel some heat, but Canadian federal politics have always favoured the incumbent, and most people believe that he's done a good job, perhaps not a great job but at least the government isn't fractured or mired in scandal. |

and you're calling Bush's policies "socialist"?
I think you need to go take Politics 020E at university or something dude. |
