5000 were sold, or they ordered 5000 in the hopes of selling them all? |

For the outdoor festival maybe, but not for the indoor venues alone. |

So I don't really know where to start as there has been so much drama with this event and yet it has been a blast. The Music is amazing which is the only thing keeping this thing together. I will give the promoters some credit...while there are some completly stupid situations they have created they are trying to pull this thing off.
I got home after the Rebel party, showered and rested for a bit before heading out. Walked around Soho shopping and people watching when I decided to head to Coney Island earlier than I had expected (I could see I was going to end up spending too much money). Got to Coney Island around 1:30 and decided to try a Nathan's hot dog and fries. Walked to the event to see a big line that wasn't moving with a hand written sign saying "delayed due to rain". Two girls working the Will Call, changing the process about 10 times before I got in left a lot to be desired. The music didn't go on until just after 2PM (it was suppose to be 10AM). When I finally got to the Will Call they didn't have the RFID wristbands and they informed us we would have to do the will call tomorrow as well. When I asked why they told be "the rain had ruined all of the computers which were going to control the will call and wrist bands.
Walked in and only one stage had sound but Carnea was great. Really had the crowd moving and almost forgetting the ordeal getting in. The crowd was shambles...it reminded me of the start of DC10 with everyone just a mess (pics and video's to follow). Afternoon Coffee Boys had a great set as well. I talked to a volunteer who said none of the organizers were there in the morning to tell them how to set up(shouldn't this have been set up Friday?). Talked to a DJ who told me the sound crew realized how screwed up the event was they weren't turning on the sound on the second stage until they were paid in full.
It was around this time I noticed EVERYONE had brought in their own booze. I went and told them I needed an ATM and walked to a store and bought beer, redbull and water and walked right back in (they were not searching ANYONE at this time). It worked out well since I only ended up buying one more drink the whole day.
Slowly the venue started filling up and they turned on the sound at the second stage around 6:30 (guess they had sold enough booze by then). By now I was completly confused with who was playing and where but the music was very good. Finally realized it was in fact Audiofly playing and then MANDY and Tiefschwarz came on and killed it. At 10PM the music stopped...it was over (not at midnight as advertised). Everyone was just kind of standing around looking at each other in disbielf. Finally Heidi picked up the microphone and told us of a few parties (including the new location for the night venue which Magna would be playing at instead).
Damn I'm writing a Graham review here....
The night venue was now in Brooklyn instead...headed to Pat's hotel and we were going to head right over. Damn Brooklyn is scary. The hotel called us a "black cab" and for $25 would send a minivan to take the 8 of us to Studio B (5 miles away from their hotel). One ing hour later since the sketch cabby got lost and drove us around in circles. I kept trying to give him directions from my Blackberry only to have him drive away as I was tying in the address we were at...which caused us to miss the directions I was getting. After about 45minutes of this I finally asked him to stop and wait until I told him where to go and we got there a few minutes later. A little more drama to get in Studio B but most of us got in right away to catch Magna starting at 2AM.
I'm sorry Cribby but her set was the worst of the weekend so far. At 2AM I don't want chill music especially after the cab ride and line up. She played for 2 hours and everyone pretty much left then. I stayed for Marc Houle and Pan Pot (at least I think that was who was playing). They brought the music up a notch or 10 and the next 2 hours again was so much fun. They closed the party down at 6AM (thank god since I haven't slept in about 32 hours and was on my feet at Coney Island and Studio B for 16 hours.
Walked out and met a couple nice New Yorkers who helped me find my way to the subway since I had no clue where I was in Brooklyn. We all agreed that the event so far was a complete mess in terms of organizing but the music was amazing and was holding everything together. Surprising as this may sound we also gave the promoters credit as it is obvious they are in way over their heads but they are trying to make this work.
One piece of advice for the promoters...
DO NOT UP TODAY WITH SHUTTING RICHIE OR FRANCOIS K DOWN EARLY. START THEN BOTH EARLIER AND LET THEM PLAY UNTIL THE COPS BARG IN AND SHUT YOU DOWN.
Still having a blast in NYC. |

i just read the rhythmism thread and this was a disaster every step of the way. out-of-towners, especially those who ponied up serious midtown hotel and vip-pass dough should be outraged.
expect boilerplate exculpations from the organizers blaming everyone but themselves for the storm. |

Friday was a mess, obviously. Never made it into the party and then arrived back at my friends place when we learned everything was moving to Rebel. Of course the party I was most looking forward to...I miss. Carola eludes me again.
Saturday was a mess as well with only one stage open, which is the one I wasn't planning on spending much time at. Place wasn't very full. No digital wristbands. Only got to hear one track from Alexi Delano before Camea came on. Her first transition was pretty meh, but she got into a nice groove after that for awhile before dropping dubfire's grindhouse remix. Talked to Heidi who said the rest of the Get Physical crew were looking to throw their own party since the Mint Stage didn't look like it was ever getting opened. Left to explore Coney Island a bit, came back and the Afternoon Coffee Boys were on. They were alright, but too monotonous for my taste. Exercise One was alright as well, but still not my cup of tea.
Saw Heidi again who told me they were opening up the Mint stage in 15, so I immediatly rushed over. She was doing a tag team set with Steven Le Tigre. Not sure what happened with Monoblock or Buttrich. That stage began filling up pretty quick, but despite getting the music started, there were still problems. The sub in the booth was making the needle jump, so everytime Heidi or Steven went to transition...it failed. Eventually they got it all fixed. Get Physical crew arrived as Heidi was picking it up. Venue was starting to fill up a lot more at this point.
Audiofly hopped on and opened with a monster, only to have their CD skip. What a surprise. After that they destroyed. Only songs I can recall off the top of my head were Gel Abril - Spell of Yoruba and a new remix of MANDY/Booka Shade - Oh Superman. Then Phillip and Ali hopped on and MANDY vs Tiefschwarz began. The place got CRAZY. There was never really any security the whole day except at the sides to make sure no one snuck in and at the front for tickets. The stage was completely full of people. Booth was packed, front of the booth, people dancing on top of the speakers, massive crowd outside the stage. I've never experienced anything like it. The energy was insane. I can't even really describe it. For me and my friends it completely made up for last night. It was unreal.
They shut everything down at 10 and told everyone that the night party was going to be at Studio B, but because of the earlier, there was going to be a Get Physical party at Webster Hall. My friends and I headed right over there, but post-minitek discount it was $25 so we just decided to say screw it since we didn't think anything could beat what we already experienced. Decided to go home and rest up for Sunday since none of us were really into anyone playing the night venue besides Format:B and PanPot who were starting way late into the night, but now it sounds like PanPot didn't even play and Format:B didn't show, so it sounds like it was probably a good decision. Plus we had no idea Magda was going to be there or we probably would have went, just figured she was a no show and something else had gotten botched by the promoters.
Heading back over to Coney Island in a little bit... |

maaan u guys sure went through some craziness the last two days.
drew n i couldn't do MiniTek at all cuz of school...but we have been getting madd texts/calls from different ppl at all times of the day, esp from our friends from out-of-state. so def been clued in on the craziness of these past two days despite our resolve to just be MIA in general, haha
last night, those freinds wanted to see us, so we decided to take a break from studying (which we had been doing the ENTIRE day)went out to dinner, then spontaneously hopped over to Studio B around 11pm to say hi to them. While we were waiting we just watched as the line went from a regular sized line of about 35-40 ppl...to a crazy BIG mess as a WHOLE FLEET of techno school buses (hehe, the FIRST bus had edm BLASTING in it which was SIIIICKK haha) rolled up to Studio B, all with blinking yellow lights, hehe. Ok, I have to admit that part was really cool. But then there was just A LOT of ppl on the sidewalk, the bouncers doing crowd control and ppl looking all confused. Ran into Kelly, Cribby, JayRP and Chaska so that was a nice random thing. Left at around 130am...and DID NOT see the friends we originally went down there to say hi too. (turns out they were soo messed up after Coney Island they just ended up driving STRAIGHT back to their hotel, lol PWNED!)
yeah im soo happy to hear things did work out somehow. I mean this was SUCH an ambitious venture on the part of the promoters. but man if Drew n I had bought tickets for this event, we would have been PISSED off at every turn. lol
looks like a great day out, party it up to the MAXIMAL, peoples :toothless |
