No you have no idea what you're talking about. None whatsoever. Every weekend, if you want to go see a "big" DJ, you can do so at Avalon or Vanguard. If you would rather see a less well known techno DJ, you can go to any number of parties thrown by Compression, Droog, Droid, which also happen pretty much every weekend. There are multiple warehouse parties every weekend too, so your friends are totally up their arses.

I don't know where to start???

seriously, this weekend had it all...funny way out outfits, great ing music, ponchos, rain, sun, wind, coney island, hot, cold, police, people messed up....

Friday: Got into NY late...decided to chill in my hotel and headed for the city...got there right about 2 am...LINES ALL THE WAY DOWN THE STREET...Police, Rude security...instantly I knew they were either shutting it down or oversold the event...and i was really that pissed about it...

the police were ing hilarious...they really were angry with the crowd...running sirens for well over 20 minutes (a bit excessive) i was bummed that no one made announcements like what was happening...got texts saying Bunker was good and then the 430 text saying get to Rebel...couldnt talk my firneds into it but ended up having fun at this rooftop party around 1st ave...

FFWD sat...I see all the posts about no djs, no set up for sat...really got nevous...got there...One disappointment...only 1 stage...but regardless...great sets...i loved that there were no bathroom lines and drink lines were pretty low too...but where the was the beer...seirously (come back in 15 min was always the response i got)

Met alot of great people Sat...i wanted to check out night venue but friends wanted to rest....SLEPT like a BABY...FFWD DAY 2....ING GREAT except for the stoopid tickets for booze...made lines too long...but oh well

Went to after party at Cielo...Not the best aprty id been too...Baby Ford didnt do much for me...and I liked Tanzmann...enough room to dance...Kinda wish I had made it to the AM Only Party with Richie earlier but I thought Cielo would be banging

Favorite Set easily Tiefschwarz V Mandy from Day 1...

Loved Davide and Camea and the beginning of Richies, but Richie kinda lost me twds the end...his sets lose steam in my oppinion

The experience overall was sooo much fun...tired, spent tons of money, didnt sleep much...and id do it all again the exact same way

SOOOO MUCH FUN

The End

Fair enough, I'll take it from someone who lives their rather than my friends who just go to school there... Interesting though since they're the type (here) to go to obscure parties and big-named DJs alike, so I'm surprised they haven't figured out where to go there...

Ok, here's my review, and I might repeat some things that have been said, but I just don't have the time to read the whole thread.
I got to Penn Plaza at about 8 to check in, but nothing was ready, specifically because they took about 2 hours to train the volunteers to use the super awesome technology ( ) that wasn't even used for the whole weekend. So I recommend you guys to give these guys hell to get your money back if you put money on your bracelet.
Ran into Tom and went to a friend's with him and then to Sully, as a way to kill time. Then I got the call from a friend of mine who was working the door and told me about rebel, so took off with a couple of ppl, and even though I hadn't checked in at Penn Plaza, my friend got me in without paying (I know, I had already paid for the weekend pass, but they were not understanding at the door). The place was disgusting, so I heard Paco, checked out Elon (who rocked it), and then decided to leave.
Saturday, I showed up @ Coney Island around 6 pm (thank god I was let in, because the line was retarded. The music was great, I have to say that the person that said Heidi would play a good set, I have to say the girl tore it up, tagteaming with Le Tigre, who was supposed to open the Mint stage. To me, it was the highlight of the day.
Then on to Studio B. What a clusterf*ck. They wanted to charge me because I didn't get the clear wristband, so I did what I do best: I bitched and bitched until they would let me in, just because they didn't want to see my face again, lol. The first guy playing (I think it was Plexus) was alright, but then everything fell flat, so I ended up leaving @ 2 (a good call) so I could have some rest for sunday. I met a spanish guy @ Studio B that told me he had been to the 1st ever Sonar in Barcelona about 10 years ago, and that it was worse than Minifail. Now, 10 years later it's the best techno festival in the world, so we can only hope Minitek will become our Sonar.
Sunday was a great day, Matt Dear played a quite decent set and Richie destroyed the place. Leaving Coney Island I get on the F train with a couple of ppl I just met and there was a big crowd going to the Clink party, they pulled out an ipod and speakers and we just made it a party, cheering everytime somebody got on the train. Hilarious. The Clink party at Supreme Trading was fun, no pretentiousness, no bull.
I have to give props to Daniele and Jenny for at least trying to do something for our scene, when everybody is complaining about everything: when there's nothing and when there's something. We're impossible to please! However I have to call Jenny out for dancing, having fun and getting ed up when everything was turning to . When Richie went on I was in the vip section right in front of him and Jenny came along saying that "this area was being reserved for her friends". I doubt her "friends" paid for anything at all that weekend when I spent about $400, and on top of that, they got prime real estate @ the place. Sometimes the techno ppl are such s.
Let's hope this happens again next year and Jenny stops being such a bitch.

Alright, now for a more thorough Sunday review...

Go to the venue around 3:30, got our electronic wristbands to do nothing but look pretty (or ugly) on our wrists. Butane was on in the Mint Stage and Ambivalent in the Purple. Hung out for Butane for a little bit, was playing some nice summery tech house. Then we headed over to catch a little of Ambivalent who was just finishing up his live set with "R U OK?" (always fun!), as Konrad Black was setting up. Black was AWESOME. Didn't know what to expect from the guy, had only heard his name a few times. Unfortunately he had his set cut in half since Richie Hawtin was starting at 8 instead of 9. Troy Pierce was up next, but I can't really get into that style plus David Squillace was scheduled to be up next on the Mint stage so I rushed over there after Troy's first track.

Mint stage was apparently backed up a bit, when I got there Butane was still playing, but Guido Schneider was getting setup. I only like a select bunch of his productions so I was tempted to head back to Pierce, but I was really digging Guido's set a lot. Soon enough, Squillace was setting up.

I had heard good things about Squillace, but GOOD GOD! Had a really soft playful intro and then BOOM. Relentless for the next hour. Banger after banger, incredible flow, great effect use. He was easily my favorite set of the weekend. Incredible. Gerber was up next, but unfortunately my friend had to leave for work at 4:30 and we had a 2 hour trip back to my friend's place we were staying at and then a 2.5 hour car trip back home so we had to bolt :( I managed to convince him to head over to check out a little of Matthew Dear and then a little bit of Gerber's set before leaving.

All in all, I had a blast this weekend despite all the that went down and I was there for all of it. Was incredibly frustrated after night one since the one guy I wanted to come out to see was Marco Carola and circumstances f'd that over. Saturday wasn't that great until the Mint stage opened up, and from there on out was an awesome finish to the first day of Coney Island. But Sunday, despite only hanging around 4ish hours, you could tell they alllllllllmost had all their together.

I doubt after all the crap that went down too many people would buy a ticket for next years festival, a decision I can absolutely understand. But for me...the music more then made up for the disappointment and frustration from the lack of organization. I'd do it all over again in a heart beat...

...only making sure to get to Penn Plaza 2-3 hours earlier.

Oh, and I never had to wait to go to the bathroom! That's always a plus :)

I have roughly 3GB of videos I'm going through at the moment and uploading to YouTube, I'll have those links at some point soon.

OK...I finally have enough energy to cover Sunday.

After about an hours sleep I forced myself to find some food and head down to CI to try and make the best of it. Got to CI around 1PM and got in pretty quickly (about 15 minutes) and they gave us the RFID wristband (didn't use its technology, just an old school sharpie marker). Why they didn't do the same Saturday so us weekend holders didn't have to line up at each venue was just another stupid move. They had Sunday organized better, but that isn't saying much compared to how bad it was.

Got in and they were now using tickets for drinks (Jenny was handling all the cash...guess people were pocketing the money from the day before). They ran out of beer quickly and often. A couple mangled sketchbags provided some entertainment.

Music was great again. It saved this festival. Konrad Black (bring him to Toronto), Troy Pierce, Audion (one of the best sets all weekend), Guido Schnieder, and David Squilace were spot on. Richie came on early since they had to close the Coney Island venue by 10PM. Richie was good...nothing too special. I think he needs more than 2 hours to truely get into it.

It was at this point I decided the 5 - 6 hours of sleep I had since 5AM Friday morning was enough so I decided to go to the afterparty at Cielo. As I was giving Shelly my bag to take home they announced a second afterparty at a place called CPACK and they would have busses to it. Since there were DJ's that had been bumped I figured I would go to that one instead. Found the bus only to hear the security say it was just for the artist (and their whores for the night). Most of the DJ's got on that bus (Pierce, Audion, Guido, Konrad Black, etc.) I started to get excited about this afterparty. A bunch of us got on the next bus and followed to DJ's. I met a couple guys from Belgium who had followed Richie all over Europe. A lot of people asked the bus driver to pull over and they got off and went to Cielo. Finally the bus dropped us of and pointed to the other bus who told us where he had left the dj's. There were only 5 of us left on the bus (the other buses went elsewhere) and we realized we were not at the afterparty but a private party for the DJ's at a small club that couldn't have held more than 200 people. After trying to get in we found this messy hispanic guy named Mike who was in charge of the party. He told us we couldn't go in...then he said give him some time to think. (Konrad Black had trouble getting back in). We explained the bus had brought us there...that I was from Toronto, the other guys from Belgium. He then proceeded to let all these drunk messy friends into the party (none of which I had seen at Minitek). Over heard a passerby talk to a girl asking who was spinning inside ( the music sounded great). Her reply was "I don't know, some skinny blonde guy but he's really good" (was it Richie? I can only assume)WTF...people like that get in and they couldn't see the situation they had left us three in. So ing close to what I'm sure it would have been the party I would have remembered for ever.
We ended up going to Cielo which was good times. Got back to my hotel around 7ish and passed out for a couple hours before heading to the airport for my flight.

I understand why a lot of you are pissed and rightfully so. It was a complete cluster in terms of organization. However, the music was great all weekend, and I got my fill of music (yes I did have to work for it and didn't get much sleep because of the organizers). Showing up late in the afternoon or early evening doesn't leave much time for music and fun.

It would have been easy to write the whole weekend and experience off, but that...I know Shelly and I had fun. I will never go to another Minitek if they try to do it again. They will know how ed up their organization was.

Anyway...Sleep calls

If anyone from NYC knows this "Mike" guy let him know he could have helped out 3 out of towners who had spent and lot of money and time supporting something he was obviously involved in. Through no fault of our own we ended up being dropped off at that party but a bus Minitek provided...there wasn't 100 of us...only 3. Way to think globally and help make things right with a few people at least.

I wasn't there but, first of all how do you know they are TA's...and second of all, way to go insulting Tranceaddicts. I guess you were too stupid to realize you are one of them too haha

And how specific...would you like to mention some names here..? The asian guy....yes, we really only have ONE now do we?

Check out the post your pics thread buddy. Besides I was taking the piss, but seriously... I was just wondering where the stereotype came from, but now I know. I only joined this forum because the DJ booth is awesome and Nemesis basically walked me through learning how to mix in that part of the forum. I stick around to with people. And I was kind of pissed at all the people trash talking Minitek so I fired off. I hope your will recover.

Magda set from a week ago all over the monotonous techno they spewed for hours. It wasn't bad but it was boring as hell.

Also, LA's fake and glitzy crowd is primarily resigned to mega clubs and music, if you like underground techno and small parties it is doubtful you'll run into a crowd any different than NY or SF...

Good to know. I'll hit you up if I ever make it out that way, but for now Brooklyn all ing day. Besides I am biased because most of my favorite DJs live in Brooklyn and it is very easy to just go up and start talking to them like I did last night at the Clink/Dumb Unit after.
