Lesbianosaur, I do fully agree with what you said before, regarding 'dinner conversation'. I have a friend that I grew up with, smart guy, who never really figured out what he wanted to study, and is now some kind of random tradesman. Tradesmen (in this country, not sure about other places) tend to have a 'culture' surrounding them, where it's almost a badge of honour to be a dull, unthinking, 'uncomplicated' type of person. And as a result of this, I can't even talk to him any more. Not about anything interesting, anyway. The 'unthinking' culture has rubbed off on him so much, that our conversations are now limited to sports, beer, and other inane , and it's really sad. Learning to think is the best thing a person can do for themselves IMO.

Haha, sounds like an accountant. I think there's an inverse correlation between the interest a person has in numbers and other people.

that's funny, my bestest friend ever and funniest man alive is an accountant. but he ing hates his job so i suppose he's different.

i have an hons degree in political theory (2001), which is only about a bees dick more useful than philosophy. i spent 13 months unemployed after i graduated, enjoying the good life with no responsibilities. i didn't start to get my act together til 2006, and now i own two houses with the ability to buy more soon.

don't stress too much JBJ. there are worse things than being self-reflective. you've just gotta remind yourself to cut yourself some slack. most people won't be nearly as hard on you as you are on yourself. just use that brain for things other than being reflective :p

i'll take two or three and although birth somewhat terrifies me i definitely don't want to adopt. although in my grand plan i really only have ten years to have these kids plus ensure my career is to a point where i am both satisfied and have made a decent amount of money. as a woman, once you have a kid or more i really don't think you can put yourself 150% into the job or if you do something is lacking with your home life. if your kid thinks their nanny is their mom that's a problem...although i guess it really depending on the industry.

When I young was thinking 30 but my first kid with my wife here was 25 then 3 months later we married. We planning getting married but in end we had it postpone it because 2 weeks before we going to get married my grandfather passed away. So we pushed it back until after the kid was borned. So I have 9 old year daughter, 7 year old son, 5 year old daughter. We are expecting another one in January but we going commando and keep the surprise from our parents until they start notice the wife getting fat but at current time they haven't noticed yet. But if don't figure out before month over then we tell em when they stop by for there grand daughter 10th birthday on the 27th. Reason why they haven't noticed it is because the wife was little overweight in her teens then lost it all then gained it back before she lost it all again. So they fought she gaining it back so we let go to long.

Now my 9 year old daughter trying to spin tunes but doesn't seem grasp it just yet because she doesn't know how connect the up right. But my 7 year old son is close to spinning circle around me.

Of course I'd like to have kids, but not now as several people have already said. I'm too young and haven't experienced life the way I want to!

This is a great thread by the way. I needed a good pick me up.

I could never have children. I cannot deal with them, I don't like even being near them. Some are adorable, some I have learned to like.. but having some of my own? Never. I couldn't handle and wouldn't want the responsibility. I like being able to do my own thing, to be able to pick up and leave whenever I want. Kids are a tie down. You can never get rid of them.

how old are you? i'm sure you'll change your mind in a couple of years. everyone says that and then they have kids. it's called instincts and there's nothing you can do about it..

I don't want kids. Even if I did, I have too many responsibilities already; I couldn't possibly do an adequate job of attending to children.
