Do you want to have kids? At what age? (pg. 12)

I'm undecided. If I find the right person who has the qualities I want then I'd consider it but I'm really unsure. My Dads brother & his wife never had kids & they've travelled to over 50 countries, experienced so much of the world from the north pole to india, nepal, chile, galapogos, hawaii, namibia, new zealand, china, thailand, sri lanka, kenya, egypt, tunisia, russia etc etc and are really financially stable, so much so my auntie retired at 50 and went to university to do an art degree and my uncle no longer works and he's 55. Honestly both types of life appeal to me, so i'll see where it goes.

Some people here have too strict ideas about who they want their kids to be. The education they'll get from their parents is a big part of the equation, sure, but every kid has their own personality. I mean, Slylee is going all about how she wants their kids to be confident, have social skills, etc etc etc. Well, what if her kid turns out to have a nerdy personality? Or worst case scenario, if the kid turns out to have some sort of disability. This sort of thing can happen to everyone - it's a very harsh part of life, but when you're a parent you need to be ready for every eventuality and accept your kid as he is. He/she's a lot more than just a reflection of yourself and will have his/her faults as any other person.

As for my case, thinking about kids doesn't make sense at the moment. One step at a time, and making plans about kids when you don't even have a partner and aren't out of university yet, seems ridiculous. I have an hard time seeing me as a decent dad, but 5 years ago I couldn't possibly imagine me being the kind that goes to the gym to work out, 10 years ago I couldn't possibly imagine me being the kind that gets wasted on booze and doesn't give a about religion, etc. People change so never say never...

i used to say that i never wanted kids, but over the last year my viewpoint has changed drastically (for a few reasons).

now i'd say that i definitely do want kids, but i'm in no rush to have them. in fact i don't feel anywhere near ready to be thinking about marriage or kids. i'm too selfish right now and there are too many things that i want to do before i settle down. i don't really have expectations for how my life is going to play out over the next 5-10 years, but if i get to a point where i am financially and emotionally stable enough to bring a little miniature lucid into the world, i am all for it.
