not when the complexity stems from sadness and deep rooted insecurity.

i love surrounding myself with simple "what u see is what u get" go with the flow happy people. it's seriously underrated and the world needs more of that sort of attitude as far as i'm concerned.

complexity = issues and/or egomaniacs in my experience. no thanks.

I won't pretend to know you, but given your posts on here, that made me laugh. Hard.

It's only really good if you're truly exceptional at it (I am not). Otherwise it's pretty much a waste of time.

dont you think that a studied life can be more rewarding than an unstudied one? (thanks socrates)

I think that this is generally something people living "studied lives" say to reassure themselves.

haha, perhaps!

but i enjoy being able to understand anything that i choose to put effort into. i enjoy being able to make educated decisions about my life as well. how many times do you see news stories of John Citizen being fvcked over by 'the man' coz they were just too dumb to manage their own life effectively?

So true. Nerds are actually the most twisted and merciless sort of people if they have a chance to be. See Nietzsche on ressentiment.

You know, that thread about "blue collar guys" that I made not long ago was originally conceived as a long rant about my own insecurities with regard to people I think of as "unreflective." I don't mean dumb people, but people who seem to be enmeshed in life. Not like silly introverts, who try pretentiously to withdraw from the world into their own minds and judge all the other participants from a distance, getting themselves ready for human interaction, trying to come up with the perfect plan and mentally replaying potential scenarios in endless variations, when ultimately all their retreat from the social world only ensures that they'll be ignorant of how to really deal with people when they finally venture out there.

In short, if you want your kids to be happy, stress constantly the importance of concrete goals, including financial ones, keep them away from the liberal arts, and enroll them in some sports or at least make sure they play outside a lot and start dating in their teens.

Otherwise you'll end up with something like me.

well i wouldn't say that you should mold your children into a stereotype, but yea definitely get them involved in stuff that is healthy and active...get them to travel when they are young and go camping and stuff like that. send them off to summer camp alone when they are little...teaches them social skills and independence.

i mean it may not work for everyone but that's the kind of stuff i plan on doing with my kids and i hope it has a positive influence on them. i won't force them to do things they genuinely hate (like play soccer when they really just want to play the guitar). u gotta go with what they are interested in as long as it doesn't turn them into introverts (like becoming a video game master lol).

at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what you are into...sports, electronics, music, coin collecting, whatever...as long as you have half a brain & some discipline, good social skills, manners and confidence...the sky is the limit.

and quit analyzing yourself so much. if you aren't that confident about who you are then go read some books or something. do what u gotta do to figure it out, but quit feelin sorry for yourself and acting like there's no hope. aren't u pretty young?
