I know your personality type from what you post on here; you're someone who thinks too much, which is a good thing.

Can you honestly say you'd rather see the world full of blundering jocks with no regard for anything they can't physically hold?

(Not that I'm against sport or anything, I was good myself)

He just said they're the happiest, not that it's the best way to live.

see, ive always seen my reason for existing revolves around my own instant gratification. i see that mode of operation staying with me for the longterm. i can't stand the idea of going to work everyday just so someone else can enjoy the fruits of my (slave) labour.

if i can make enough money in the next decade or two, then i can retire and be a stay at home dad whilst the other half slaves the 9-5 grind.

yea i can admit that my only selfish reason for wanting kids is to ensure i'll have someone to take care of me when i'm old. the more kids you have and the better you raise them, the nicer your golden years will be if you end up losing your husband or wife and having to wear a diaper. lol at least one of ur kids will feel obligated to take u in and not stick you in a nursing home alone LOL

i disagree. its a good thing if the person knows how to harness that cranial horsepower in a positive fashion. if youre a bit useless like someone i know :D some areas of development can be stunted by said thinking ;)

sometimes i would give anything to be among the ignorant. i think it's more of a burden to be an overthinker/sensitive "dork". i'd rather just be a regular joe schmoe and i think that simplicity is refreshing, not boring.

haha, yeah that's the pay off! of course you could end up with bastards no matter how good a mum you are, and then they sell your home out from under you after you gave them power of attorney :p

JBJ said that churning out happy yet oblivious people is preferable to conscientious, unsatisfied people. You're right though, he didn't say which is a better way to live, though you could infer from the statement below that he believes "happy" people live better.

I disagree with this.

Better to have a world full of sad people moving forward than a world full of idiots treading water. Intelligence and complexity are man's greatest attributes and distinguish us from animals.

I could never have children. I cannot deal with them, I don't like even being near them. Some are adorable, some I have learned to like.. but having some of my own? Never. I couldn't handle and wouldn't want the responsibility. I like being able to do my own thing, to be able to pick up and leave whenever I want. Kids are a tie down. You can never get rid of them.

Not really, but again, that's because I've been poisoned.

All I'm saying is that if the long-term happiness and success of your kids is your primary goal in raising them, it's better that they be basically unreflective, spending their time pursuing achievements rather than incessantly doubting themselves and wondering about the "point" of doing so. And of course plenty of people can take this attitude toward life, not just jocks -- you could be an accountant or even an engineer and be like this -- but I think a good push toward the sensual and superficial early on in life will work wonders for a person's happiness.

It's only really good if you're truly exceptional at it (I am not). Otherwise it's pretty much a waste of time.

The philosopher Bernard Williams once asked, "Is there any point in trying to do philosophy if you're not exceptionally good at it?" The answer, of course, is that there really isn't one.

Don't worry it's impossible to get children from scissoring :p
