it was interesting to find out that the upstairs patio/Spider Club at Avalon apparently will no longer be open in the future for Sat nites as its now a restaurant/lounge (Bardot). i am not sure if the friday nite afterhours is still going on in that space... |

Before it was the cool place to be. :p
It was right after they renamed and started renovating it and Heaven was doing their events there with Godskitchen. That crowd just LOVED the house room. :stongue: |

Sucks.
I was kinda looking forward to hanging out in the terrace. Lots of good memories from a couple years ago there. It was always nice to see the sun go up w/ bomb music.
I am also a Vanguard frequent. (there are exceptions sometimes) Avalon does have the longer hours...but 4 am is good enough.
Avalon may have better production technicians at times.
Better and more intense lighting can give a venue that little extra feel. |

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT that was the best part of avalon i cannot believe that. But avalon and Vanguard are both equal to me ill go to either depending on which DJ id rather see |

it was definitely closed last Sat nite....and i thought one of the long-time bartenders told me that's how it will be in the future....maybe one of the Avalon/Spundae promoters on here can clear this up... |

I dont like either anymore and even though i live less than an hour away from them, I make weekend trips to SF about once a month and hit up ruby skye. Those that havent been up to SF, I'd be down to get a few of you and plan a trip up. could fly if airfare is cheap and hotel room costs would'nt be too bad.

im biased but King King is "the" way to go :tongue3
to answer the question straight-up though, even if I attend events in both venues...I like Vanguard as a venue better...you can rest and chill at the patio (though i really hate the DJ outside...once the headliner comes on, can you guys just pipe-in the music)
sound system in the main room of vanguard is better too...it feels like one is Drowing in the Beats when you dance at Vanguard... |

Ya, Giant needs to get different people playing on the patio on Saturday nights. Same guy everyweek gets really boring. |

A good source told me the upstairs is done. The Honey lounge will now be the only other room. I'm not gonna say for sure because I don't work there.
As for which I like better, no way I could get into that one. I worked for Giant for 5 years so I spent plenty of time at both knowing the ins and outs of them both. I like both venues but for different reasons. Vanguard has the edge for me personally. Talent wise, everyone is too critical. Avalon is bringing something different in these days which is cool. Giant is still supplying LA with the mega headliners which...well...we can't be LA without that. It's a nice balance which gives you great choices every Sat for the most part. And now we got a new Sat with Nikita at what I consider to be the most comfortable club in LA.
Although I will say, as far as my own enjoyment, I'm more of a smaller club guy too. |

i think part of the issue as well is the noise...just no way to prevent the music from traveling down the block and with the building going up next door as well as the new developments at the corner at Vine i think Avalon would be facing a lot of problems in the future regarding noise infractions....so they just decided to put an end to it right now especially with the renovation of the Spider Club/patio into Bardot. |
