Which one do you like more?
The best night you had at them?
I personally think that Avalon is a better venue but the crowd sucks... The one thing that has made Vanguard survive this long is the patio. Without that patio the doors would be closed by now.
Hopefully promoters and management for both venues read this thread and improve on the cons. |

I think avalon is making a concerted effort through honey lounge to improve the crowd. Obviously in a venue of that size, it's a numbers game, and when you do 2500 people not everyone is going to be brad pitt, but I do think they are working on building their infrastructure.
On friday's they are doing a hipster/electro night, and exposing a new crowd to the venue, and like I said, they are trying to do some interesting things through honey to draw a different crowd. |

agreed! they are trying to change it up. doing a pretty good job imo. obviously, its not going to happen over night. |

I much prefer the one on the right.
As for the topic in question, I like smaller clubs to begin with and I don't think either venue will ever be able to re-invent itself any time soon.
Avalon has so far had the edge in pushing more interesting and cutting edge music, though the mainroom crowd is still pretty terrible 90% of the time.
Giant saturdays at Vanguard have not had anything that appeals to me in quite some time, and the OC guido crowd they have been attracting lately has pretty much put the nail in the coffin.
I have the most fun clubbing in LA outside of these venues.
