Isn't Skipper allowed to express her opinion? You people express negative opinions about things all the time on here but god forbid someone speaks negatively about your precious Zone.
Yes the music is great and I had my fun there but the place is still a hole. Having lived in the neighbourhood as well you can see the difference in sketch factors when it's open and when it isn't. Zone only attracts young business people? LOL have you seen the sketchy gangstas in Zone? Not people I would want wandering around my neighbourhood wacked out of their heads.
Unless someone wants to turn Zone into a Non-profit institution then you can't really compare it to CAMH or the homeless shelter next door. |

My point about CAMH and the homeless shelter was that they make College and Spadina 'sketchy'... and that the Zone patrons dont actually cause any sort of harm anyone in the area... they just emerge from the black door at odd times of the day and usually hop straight into a cab.
This was in response to Skipper saying that the Zone made college and spadina more dangerous (or 'sketchy') |

Based on your point, you cannot compare them on their motives, but you certainly can, and we have, compared the people who frequent the organizations.
Having biked, walked, street car'd past that intersection at all times of day/night, and all days of the week, the corner is sketch at any time. It could be a Tuesday at 4pm, it could be Friday at 2am, its always weird there.
There are just too many interacting factors there to completely blame the zone for that area's problems. The CAMH, the annex to the north, china town to the south, computer heaven to the west, and the uni to the east. Each invites its own cast of weirdo characters, and because the traffic is so heavy, your chances of seeing any of these people goes up.
Honestly, the downtown core of TO is filled with crazy people. Collage and Spadina isn't that different. |

dont those places lower the land value significantly for that area? thus allowing an afterhours to exist? |

there are 2 reasons people defend the comfort zone
1. you are a huge in wanker and you have not been able to gain popularity and friendships in the real clubbing world so youve moved to the world of CZ
or
2. You think you are the in because you go to CZ for whatever reason most likely you beelive that somehow your musical knowledge and taste makes you superior to those who only attend normal clubs. you extend that to beleive that if you dont go to this particular club to hear these particular djs then you are not cool/elite/whatever/douche.
^^^^ what a fantasy world you guys live in, im sorry
Heres an experiment.
Go to CZ:
turn the music off, turn the lights on, and take a look around
Go to a bunch of other clubs:
turn the music off, turn the lights on, and take a look around
to the people who say there would be no difference in those 2 cases....
all i have to say is taht using the handle "ChemEnhanced" to defend comfort zone... |

+ 1. WTF????? I've been in many a club when the lights come on and music goes off. it's never pretty anywhere. I've been in zone when lights come on and music goes off. Midday on a saturday I will add.. meh. I wasn't surrounded by Evil Dead extras or anything. People just looked tired. No more messed up than anywhere else. I've seen sloppier girls falling out of richmond st bars
Oh yeah... I was SOBER!!!! 100% waiting for my buddy to finish his set so we could go for a coffee. |

Comfort Zone is an experience in and of itself. Unlike all of the other clubs in the city, with their lights and VIPs and bottle service, Zone's a dark basement with black lights and great acoustics for bass. Just on face value, it's not like any other club in the city. |
I read this as: "Unlike all of the other clubs in the city, which try to maintain at least some air of dignity and professionalism, Zone is a total hole and doesn't try to make it any better!"
I'm not saying they should shut it down, but seriously, come on guys, it's a dive. It's a convenient place to come down and escape from reality for another 6-12 hours on Sunday, but they do not have great acoustics, they do not have a wonderful crowd, and DJs do not play better there.
Footwork is unpretentious; Zone is a dodgy armpit. |

If CZ closes i see a lot of illegal after parties happening, the bad thing is these after parties are going to be hit and miss (i.e the one after adam bayer last year) |
ha, I thought that was a ing great party. Freaks and geeks and techno and random lofts in the east end. |

I am familiar with the other sketch-contributors in the area. The zone is not the only one, you're right.
Unfortunately for the zone, people tend to see homeless shelters and addiction treatment as having more use in society than all day dance parties frequented by people who have been awake for an unnaturally long time.
So while I recognize the zone is not the only originator of sketch (and patrons do not always hop in a cab, especially on long weekend parties where there's a line out front, or it's busy and people are milling around on the street), you can't exactly argue that it has as much purpose as the homeless shelter does (although on weekends, it can sure seem like a homeless shelter) |
